Chapter 361 Day 9
Chapter 361 Day 9
Whether it was due to a misunderstanding or the spider demons finding it troublesome, the net was repeatedly opened, and several living creatures fell out.
Besides the dwarven explorers Brann & Bronzebeard, whom he had never seen before and who were constantly chattering around him, Lorraine also spotted a familiar face who shouldn't be there.
To be precise, they are enemies!
Lorraine was initially worried for these unlucky fellows; below was a bottomless abyss, and falling in might mean instant death...
To everyone's surprise, the spider demon seemed to have thoughtfully placed a net beforehand, lowering Lorraine down with it. Lorraine had barely regained her footing when she realized that she was surrounded by incredibly thin silk threads...
The spider web, made of silk threads, appears transparent, but is actually like soft glass, trapping the unfortunate creatures around it.
It turned out that there was no empty space beneath its feet. It was wondering why the spider demon could levitate and stay in place... It turned out that layers upon layers of transparent spider webs had formed the spider demon's castle in the air.
"Filthy necromancer, don't think that just because you released me, I'll let you go. You have a repulsive aura... I feel you resemble that hateful, foul-smelling, ugly, and cunning bard. No, he's a spy. Once I catch him, I'll tear him to pieces... No one can stop my revenge."
Lorraine had just composed himself when his enemy's words came from beside him, instantly making him itchy all over. He clenched his fists, wanting to beat the other person up...
Their eyes met, and it really was him.
Garin & Thorbain!
After sizing each other up, Garin seemed to realize that Lorraine wasn't the enemy he claimed to be...
He didn't recognize Lorraine...
There were several other living people around, whom Lorraine did not recognize. Among them were several middle-aged men dressed as Kirin Tor mages, their robes magnificent, their staffs gripped tightly, wary yet still shaken.
There were also servants and men and women dressed in rough clothes... a few were probably miners, carrying pickaxes and headlamps... and there were also leather-armored militiamen with short swords and small shields...
This group of people appeared underground, perhaps because Lorraine blew up the lakeside camp.
Lorraine glanced at Brian, the dwarf who had asked him for help; Brian had promised a reward...that was all. He wanted to see what the talkative dwarf actually looked like...I saved him, he owes me his life!
The term "dwarf" is relative; in reality, the dwarf Brian isn't that short, standing at around 1.6 meters tall, not much shorter than Lorraine... Of course, compared to the trolls and spider-men among this unfortunate group, Lorraine and the dwarf Brian look like kittens...
Lorraine didn't have time to look around much before deciding that the main characters of this group of unfortunate souls would be two spider demons over three meters tall...
The other party seemed to keep its word, saying it would eat him later, and kept its eyes on him... There were also newly dropped prey, this group of prey numbering nearly 10, almost half of which were rare humans, along with a troll, three dwarves, and a murloc...
The Spider Demon seems a bit of a pity...
But these intelligent creatures kept their promise: "Insects, which one of you is your companion?"
The older spider demon raised his claws, pointed at the group of unfortunate souls, and asked Lorraine, this time in an ancient Elvish language that Lorraine and the dwarf Brian could understand... The two of them changed their expressions, and the surrounding survivors, including the arrogant Prince Garin, did not understand what the spider demon was saying.
They just stood there, clutching their weapons, fearfully observing their surroundings...
Several people were trembling because not far from them, groups of spider demons were moving along paths made of various spider webs... Many spider demons had newly captured nets hanging beneath them... and there seemed to be living creatures struggling inside.
Lorraine glanced instinctively at the dwarf Brian, and the spider-man seemed to understand his look.
In an instant, the troll, several heads taller than Lorraine and completely bewildered, was suddenly torn to pieces by another spider-man. It grabbed a part of the troll and said to Lorraine, "This shouldn't be one of your kind... It's different from insects like you. We recognize it. This is a Fang Troll... an enemy of the Aqir insectoids."
The remaining survivors who witnessed all of this, including the magnificent robed mage wielding a staff, collapsed in terror.
A human woman was driven mad with fear.
She screamed involuntarily, the scream piercing the cave and causing a lot of fluorescent powder to fall from the giant mushroom in the cave, attracting puzzled glances from the surrounding insect people.
The woman who let out a sharp scream seemed to have disturbed the insectoid being. The insectoid being on Lorraine's face merely flicked its wrist, and the woman who had been making the cacophony lost her upper body...
The world finally quieted down, and the spider demon's gaze fixed on the few remaining companions of Lorraine who had no other choice. Lorraine seemed to feel a pang of pity; he quickly raised his hand and cried out, "These insects are my companions...please don't hurt them! Except..."
Turning his head, Garin, pale-faced, realized that Lorraine was looking at him. He stared blankly, then seemed to realize something was wrong and hurriedly begged for mercy: "Undead... no, great necromancer, I am also one of your kind. I misheard you... You are a human. With your handsome face, you must be a kind noble gentleman! You are a noble mage, please forgive a warrior like me..."
Garin was curled up, his legs trembling, and it seemed that water was seeping out...
Crying, she pleaded, "Please don't blame me for eating me... I beg you, I'd rather fall to my death than let them eat me..."
Lorraine gritted her teeth, "I'll deal with you later... Humph!"
He said to the spider demon, "Besides these, I actually have many companions. They may have all been captured by you, or they may have already fallen victim to the enemy. In any case, I hope that, as an ally, you can do your best to ensure that my companions do not become food. They can help me and you fight against our common enemy..."
The spider demons listened with interest to Lorraine's impassioned arguments. The older spider demon nodded: "Insect, the Decomposers agree to your request, but the intruders have disturbed the Sanctuary Guardians. We will not forgive any intruders. You speak the language of the Creator, so we will make an exception for you, but only this once. What is the outside world like now? Are the Old Gods imprisoned? Has order been forged? Should the covenant the Titans made with us be dissolved...?"
"The Titan's Pact...this..."
Lorraine had a headache; he had no idea about any Titan's Pact...
The elder spider-demon known as the Decomposer seemed to sense Lorraine's confusion. "Our race was originally the guardians of the Mother, born with the ability to resist the mental control of the Old Gods. However, the Mother was ultimately killed and corrupted by the Old Gods, and the Aqir race could not escape the fate of enslavement. To save our race, a few Mother guardians were blessed by the Titans and signed a pact: as long as we guard the sealed portal of the Stone Mother, the Titans will grant our race freedom... and bestow upon us the Underworld..."
"We have guarded the gate for ten thousand years... I am the Grand Elder of this Abyss Council. The Stone Mother is still safe and sound, but the reward promised by the Titans has yet to be fulfilled..."
