Chapter 365 Dwarf Death Ray
Chapter 365 Dwarf Death Ray
Brann Bronzebeard faced many challenges, and his survival was not entirely due to luck.
He was grateful that Lorraine had saved him, but... the necromancers of the Forsaken were always the enemy of the living... For decades, the greatest threat to the Eastern Kingdoms had been the rampant plague and the undead...
Before they reached the ground, Brian Bronzebeard sat by the fire and comforted Lorraine.
"I haven't been formally introduced yet. My name is Brann Bronzebeard, and I will become the greatest adventurer in dwarven history. Thank you, necromancer, for saving my life and theirs. You are my great hero. Please tell me your name, and the Bronzebeard dwarf will remember your kindness."
Brian gave a deep salute to the distraught Lorraine.
Lorraine looked at the red-haired, bearded dwarf and felt a little warmth rise in her heart.
"Just call me Lorraine, it was nothing... don't mention it."
Lorraine waved his hand weakly, still somewhat dejected. His journey underground had been utterly humiliating. He had initially thought regaining his human form would be a wonderful surprise... but upon reaching the surface, the surprise turned to horror, and he was back to his original form...
I feel terrible and heartbroken.
Without his teacher, he had no one to talk to. Clutching the fragments of the Bloodstone Egg, Lorraine felt like his fists were about to shatter...
The mission was a failure, wasn't it?
.....
"Lorraine, that name sounds so familiar..."
The dwarf Brann Bronzebeard murmured the name of Lorraine, as if he had heard it somewhere before. His adventure party had set out from the ruins of the Alterac Valley battlefield, descending into the underground through a fissure created by an avalanche.
The entire Stormpike Dwarf Expedition was originally an expeditionary force of the Stormpike Dwarves. It was their conflict with the Frostwolf Clan, who lived in seclusion in the Alterac Valley, that sparked the protracted war between the Alliance and the Horde in the Alterac Mountains.
Brian received news that the Stormpike Dwarf Expedition had discovered mysterious ruins in the Alteran Valley. The architectural style was similar to several other ruins that the dwarves had previously explored, which is why he eagerly led an archaeological team to explore the site.
Even as the Alterac Valley was engulfed in war, with both sides fighting to the death, Brian still led his men down into the abyss, despite the warnings from countless Stormpike Generals...
Noticing that only Brian was awake, Lorraine readily told him her name.
At this point, Lorraine no longer hesitated to reveal her identity.
After a brief exchange, he began surveying the terrain near the crevice, preparing to find an exit and return to the surface as quickly as possible.
.....
Seeing Lorraine looking around, Brian put down the food he was holding and quickly comforted him, "Mr. Lorraine, thank you again for rescuing me. I don't understand what you're worried about. If being a ghost is causing you pain, I think that's understandable..."
Brian sighed, "The Lich King has taken the lives of countless living people, yet the victims cannot rest in peace even in death. I think I can understand the plight of the Forsaken."
“My brother always told me that the members of the tribe were all cruel and evil monsters... I don’t think that’s true. Lorraine, you proved to me that the Forsaken can also have humanity.”
Lorraine looked at the dwarf with the big beard and solemnly comforted himself.
He let out a wicked laugh: "Heh, even if you praise me... you still have to pay the reward you promised! No matter how you survived, I risked my life to save you, you have to give me gold coins. Otherwise, I'm not done with you..."
Brian had just taken a couple more bites when he almost choked on Lorraine's reply... He coughed awkwardly twice and waved his hand, "Don't worry, Mr. Lorraine...we dwarves never lie..."
It seems I've thought of something and feel it's inappropriate...
Brian patted his chest and changed his tune, saying, "At least, we, the Bronzebeard family, have always been true to our word!"
"Yes! I've got it."
After rummaging through the dried clothes for a while, the dwarf adventurer carefully opened a tightly wrapped leather bag... Upon opening it, Lorraine noticed a bunch of strange metal parts in the dwarf's palm...
Next, Brian rummaged through the various sealed, hidden pockets of the clothing and found other metal parts of different shapes...
Under Lorraine's questioning gaze, it was pieced together...
Until it transformed into a futuristic little pistol-shaped object, upon closer inspection, it resembled a toy pistol, with a spherical head and coils of wire connecting it to the front. No matter how you looked at it, it looked like a launcher...
"Hmm, not bad. The life-saving artifact that Master Craftsman Mekkatorque gave me! Ta-da! Completely intact..."
Brian proudly introduced his creation, but Lorraine took a closer look and saw a small, toy-like metal object that he couldn't make heads or tails of.
He tried to take a look, but the dwarf suddenly slapped Lorraine's hand away, saying, "Be careful, this thing is dangerous."
"It's called the Dwarf Death Ray! It's the latest version researched by the dwarf technicians... It's extremely dangerous, capable of melting steel doors several tens of centimeters thick. Originally, it was for my own survival in times of danger... Now that we're safe, I'm giving it to you as payment... This is just an advance payment..."
Brian chuckled, “If you’re willing to come with me back to the camp in Alterac Valley, join my expedition, and become a special member, I’ll pay you the remaining 500 gold coins, plus a full set of the latest expedition gear from our Explorers’ Guild… a Stormwind Metro VIP Gold Card, which allows you to use the Metro for free for life, and you can also visit our Creator’s Showroom on Mystic Isle. How about it?”
Brian held up one finger. "If you're still not satisfied, we'll throw in a super cool two-seater mechanical motorcycle, a dwarf burrowing machine, or a mechanical flying vehicle—your choice! These are things you can't buy even with gold coins, you know. I had to use my brother's connections to get these treasures..."
"Go back to Alterac Valley camp with you? Join the adventure team?"
Lorraine was speechless...
"Do you think I'm an idiot? Don't you know that the Alliance and the Horde are locked in a life-or-death struggle? Alterac Valley has long been a battlefield of carnage, a fight to the death... I am a Forsaken, the Queen's most loyal warrior, how could I possibly go back with you... You're not trying to renege on your promise, are you!"
Brian was being scolded by Lorraine, who was poking his nose. The undead's claws were unusually sharp, and the dwarf's nose was shockingly large and fat. "I'm sorry...it was my oversight...but these things are indeed all in my camp, or I can only give them to you if I go back to my headquarters..."
Lorraine pouted and snatched the toy gun from Brian's hand. "Then this thing is mine. Consider it interest..."
"Hey, be careful, don't pull the trigger... This thing is really powerful..." Brian quickly tried to grab it, but Lorraine dodged and wouldn't give it to him. He began to examine the toy gun closely, wondering if it was as powerful as Brian had boasted...
"Dwarf Death Ray. Pretty cool name..."
The two seemed to have grown closer, and Lorraine actually longed for a friend who would risk his life for her.
But between dwarves and the undead, just as between the Alliance and the Horde, peace is usually only temporary...
