Chapter 105 Monster
Chapter 105 Monster
"This... young lady?"
Hearing the shopkeeper's hesitant voice, Guan Xun ignored it, glanced around the shop, and then slowly asked, "Do you have anything to cover your face?"
The shopkeeper was slightly taken aback, having assumed the person in the black robe was a girl, but it turned out to be a young man.
The man came to this kind of place simply to buy things for his sweetheart, but the woman in front of him didn't look like she had any money in her pocket.
He shook his head impatiently: "Only a veil."
Guan Xun pondered for a moment. A veil? It's no less discreet than a black robe. A black robe can at least conceal one's identity, but if one wears a veil, anyone with eyes can tell that she is a woman.
Besides, why would an ordinary person wear such a thing? It's like trying to hide something obvious, and it would definitely attract a lot of attention if someone walked down the street.
Composing herself, she turned and left.
However, just as he stepped out of the shop, Guan Xun suddenly stopped, glanced sideways at the town's streets near Moxi City, and then quickly boarded the carriage.
"Come on."
Tie He was so anxious that he paced back and forth in circles. Before he could even feel the joy of seeing Guan Xun, he heard the other man's somewhat solemn words.
He composed himself and, not daring to delay, immediately rode away.
The carriage left the town streets and entered a dark alley. The wheels made a clattering sound as they rolled over the potholes in the ground, and the carriage swayed from time to time.
"Miss, has something happened?" Tiehe couldn't help but ask.
"It's nothing." Guan Xun sighed and rubbed his forehead. Just how bad must the road be? It was so bumpy it gave him a headache.
The reason I was in such a hurry just now was because I sensed several powerful auras flying from that direction. At this moment, I knew without even guessing who they were, and I certainly couldn't stay on the street for too long.
This town is the same...
The carriage bumped and jolted until it finally came to a stop just as it was about to fall apart.
"Miss, we've arrived." Tie He looked embarrassed, and his tone was much softer than usual.
The alley was dark and gloomy, with cracks and gaps in the walls, covered with moss and large clumps of weeds. Even though it hadn't rained, the wet stains were very obvious, and the whole alley was damp.
The moment the door was pushed open, there were still clods of mud above, seemingly about to collapse.
It's no wonder Tie He looked so embarrassed; anyone would feel awkward in that situation. Even Guan Xun couldn't help but frown. She had expected it to be very simple, but the current situation was still beyond her expectations.
As soon as the door was pushed open, hurried footsteps came from inside the dilapidated tile-roofed house.
An older woman dressed in a gray cloth coat rushed out. She was short, had a kind face, and was carrying a bowl of hot white porridge.
Upon seeing the visitor, she turned around, placed the porridge on the living room table, smiled, walked through the knee-high weeds in the front yard, patted Tiehe's arm several times, and then took the medicine from his hand: "Oh, Tiehe is back, give it to me."
"Aunt Li, thank you for troubling me again. How is Xuanxuan?" Tiehe asked with a smile, not being shy at all.
"Don't worry, Xuanxuan is feeling better these days." Aunt Li sighed and shook her head, but her smile remained, though the wrinkles around her mouth deepened. "Also, since you know you'll be troubling me, just come back on time every time you go out. Don't do what happened last time!"
Speaking of this, Tiehe felt guilty. The last mission had gone awry; they were trapped in the Valley of Ten Thousand Demons for over a month, causing his sister to run out of medicine. Fortunately, Aunt Li helped take care of her, otherwise…
"I will not do it again."
"Okay, I'm feeding Xuanxuan porridge right now. You can tidy up first." Aunt Li said, turning around before noticing a figure outside the door. The light was dim, and she rubbed her eyes to make out the figure. "Another guest?"
"Ah, yes, I was out on some business, and it's thanks to her that I was able to come back safely," Tie He said, turning to the side.
"My savior? We can't be rude to you, please come in and sit down." Aunt Li said, reaching out to pull him up, very warmly.
This action startled Tiehe, who quickly stopped her, saying, "Aunt Li, I'll take care of her. Please look after Xuanxuan for me while I change my clothes."
Aunt Li looked at his blood-stained and tattered robes, nodded, and turned to pick up the hot porridge and go back into the house.
Tiehe looked away and scratched the back of his head sheepishly: "Miss, my place is a bit run-down, but I usually keep it clean. Let me take you to the living room to sit for a while, and I'll prepare a room for you to rest in later."
As he spoke, his gaze fell on the carriage behind him. He needed to hurry up and unload the everyday items on it. The sky had been dark since earlier, and it might rain later.
Guan Xun waved his hand, telling him to go about his business, and then wandered around the courtyard at will.
The front yard, which was only a few meters wide, was even smaller with a well in the middle, making it seem to take up even more space. Three small tile-roofed houses surrounded it, giving it an extremely oppressive feel, and the air was filled with an unpleasant musty smell.
Guan Xun stopped in front of the small tile-roofed house on the right, his eyes fixed on the tightly locked wooden door.
“Master,” Chi Rong suddenly called out.
"I know." Guan Xun turned his head and shifted his gaze to Tie He, who was carrying things back and forth. His dark eyes were unfathomable. "You've kept this door locked all this time?"
"Yes, it's full of things that I don't need or that are broken. I can't bear to throw them away, so they're all piled up inside. I used to tidy it up, but since my sister got sick, I haven't had time to take care of it, so it's been locked up all this time."
"Is there really nothing else besides this?" Guan Xun asked again.
"This..." Tiehe stopped what he was doing, thought hard, and shook his head in confusion. "There really is nothing else, miss. Why are you asking this?"
Guan Xun sighed softly, a hint of smugness creeping into his eyes: "You're supposed to be a level 30 Spirit Master, and you frequent the Valley of Ten Thousand Demons. Do you really not know there are demonic beasts inside?"
"What?!" Tie He exclaimed in horror.
The commotion startled Aunt Li, who rushed out of the house and anxiously inquired.
"Uh, it's nothing, I was just startled by a mouse." Tiehe forced a stiff smile.
"Oh dear, I thought something serious had happened. Don't make a fuss," Aunt Li said, feigning a scolding, before going back inside.
Tie He dared not shout anymore and quickly lowered his voice: "Miss, don't try to fool me. Just as you said, how could I not sense the presence of a demon beast?"
He paused, then added, "Besides, how could a demon beast possibly appear in a place like this?"
Seeing that the other party's expression remained unmoved, and not intending to say anything, she simply looked at him indifferently. The more she looked at him, the more the confidence he had displayed when he spoke sank.
Only after being completely overwhelmed by suspicion did he become resolute, put down his work, and take the key out of his storage ring.
I would rather trust it to have it than to trust it to have nothing.
My younger sister is still living here...
"So, should I open it?"
Tie He swallowed hard, feeling uncertain. Even though the key was already inserted into the lock, he still had to turn to ask Guan Xun.
It would be hard for anyone to stay calm if a monster suddenly appeared in their home.
"Hmph." Guan Xun's lips curled into a smile as he took a few steps back. "Go ahead and drive."
This movement caused Tiehe's body to stiffen slightly, and he even took a step back. Was there really a monster inside? Or a formidable one?
His face darkened, and he regained his vigilance, just as he had when he was on a mission.
He wanted to see what was going on.
