Chapter 133: The End
Lu Yu was stunned after hearing this, and before he could even put down his things, he went straight to Ji Meiqing.
"What happened to you today?"
She moved the book aside, looked at him, and said, "Did Grandma Mei tell you?"
She looked at it for a while, then put the book back in its place, her voice coming from inside: "I just didn't bring enough money with me for dinner today, so I ate a free meal."
Lu Yu's brows were furrowed deeply and tightly. "You could have your mother-in-law take it there. Why did you think of jumping off a building?"
"I'm too lazy to talk about it." She turned over. There was nothing she could say about what had happened today, so she could only try to avoid it.
Lu Yu sighed, "If you encounter something like this again, just tell me, and you won't have to be in such a mess."
"Oh." She secretly pouted, slightly dissatisfied.
Ji Tianci also came over, and he sent the red dates to eat grass.
The food was all prepared when Ji Meiqing suddenly remembered her croton seeds, so she hurried to find Granny Mei...
The clothes had all been thrown into the wooden basin by themselves. She quickly searched through them and finally found only a clump of paste. Startled, Ji Meiqing quickly took them out and put them on the windowsill to dry.
A few days later, Ji Meiqing was lying in the courtyard when Yanzhi suddenly came over, dressed in a woman's attire.
Her arrival stunned everyone in the courtyard. Unlike before, her complexion was rosy, and all her seductive aura had vanished, leaving only a gentle and graceful demeanor. Ji Meiqing understood.
"Grandma Mei, could you please bring me a stool?" she called out to the room, then looked at Rouge and calmly asked, "You and he are already married?"
"Yes, it's done. Second Aunt." She said simply.
A stool was brought over, and she sat down.
"Congratulations," she simply said.
Rouge nodded, but didn't say anything else. She only asked, "How's that matter going? Do you need my help?"
"You?" Ji Meiqing asked curiously, "What are your conditions?"
"No," she denied. "I just wanted to help you."
"Oh." She lay down again, glancing at her as if to sized her up.
Dressed in elaborate and gorgeous attire, she thought of Tian Cuiwei again and couldn't help but ask, "How is Xiao Cui?"
"It's alright, I'm staying home and resting peacefully during my pregnancy." She seemed a little regretful, probably because she couldn't fight back against her.
The two fell silent again. After looking around, Rouge shifted her gaze to Ji Meiqing. "Are you planning to continue like this?"
"No." She moved the book aside, instantly perking up. "This kind of life is too easily disrupted. What I want is to have whatever I want, like an emperor..."
Rouge fell silent.
When Ji Meiqing looked at her again, she saw that her face had turned pale, and asked in confusion, "What's wrong with you?"
"You're not thinking of rebelling and becoming an empress, are you...?"
"You're overthinking it..." She lay back down. "I don't have that kind of guts. I just want to live my life peacefully."
Rouge breathed a sigh of relief. "I came out today and greeted him. It's almost time now."
"No need to see me off," Ji Meiqing said firmly.
Rouge stood up, looking down at her, and said, "I'll handle the restaurant matter. Just wait for news about the rest..."
Ji Meiqing didn't speak, but out of the corner of her eye she watched the red clothes gradually disappear... She couldn't concentrate on the words in the book, so she simply put it aside and closed her eyes to rest.
The matter that Rouge mentioned was resolved quickly. She acted swiftly, as if she had been prepared in advance. Ji Meiqing heard about it from her waiter after arriving at the restaurant.
The Dragon and Phoenix Pavilion was sealed off by government troops early this morning, and everyone inside was arrested. They told her the gist of the matter, and she felt a chill run down her spine after hearing it.
"Boss lady... Boss lady... how are you?" The waiter nudged her, and she came to her senses.
Looking at the person in front of me, I said, "You go do your own thing first... I'll be alone for a while."
The waiter glanced at her timidly, then slowly walked away. Most of the people in the restaurant had arrived, so she went back upstairs. Thinking about what they had discussed that morning, she didn't know what to feel.
The weather was terribly muggy, with occasional strong winds that seemed to carry a knife-like chill, making one's skin sting.
She went to close the window, and the noise downstairs grew even louder. She didn't know what had happened, but she opened the door and called the shopkeeper up.
"Boss, is there anything I can do for you?"
Ji Meiqing stroked the glass and pondered, "Go and put up a notice that in three days, our building will hold a drinking contest. The first person who drinks the most and doesn't pass out can enjoy a 50% discount on meals here for six months."
"Boss, what's going on?"
"Go ahead," she waved her hand, "Remember to write a lot of copies."
The shopkeeper glanced at her a couple more times before slowly leaving. The room fell silent again, and she felt as if all her strength had been drained away.
The weather suddenly turned gloomy, and the temperature dropped drastically, as if it had suddenly gone from summer to winter.
She quickly changed into a padded jacket and stayed inside the house by the stove. Lu Yu took her out with him, and they went to the restaurant early in the morning to prepare.
Banners and other items were prepared. Because it was a special day, all the tables in the restaurant were gathered together, and the corridors and upstairs were cleaned up.
He exhaled a puff of hot air and continued working. By daybreak, most people were up. Everything was tidied up, and then he sat down, waiting for people to arrive.
As dawn broke, more and more people gathered. They had already brought out the wine jars and placed them aside, seemingly determined to get everyone drunk.
More and more people signed up, and the shopkeeper kept bringing over order forms. Ji Meiqing and Lu Yu exchanged a smile; it was almost time... They prepared themselves... and then went downstairs.
The place was bustling with activity, seemingly filled with people coming to watch the spectacle. They found a spot to watch, and the manager explained the situation, reiterated the rules, and then repeated the benefits, before concluding with...
"This time, our boss felt it wasn't good enough. So he added another item: the winner... will receive three hundred taels of silver! In cash!" He emphasized this twice, then had someone bring the item up.
The cloth bag was full of silver. This action drove them all crazy; Ji Meiqing felt like she was about to go deaf.
Lu Yu took the initiative to pull her into his arms, and then covered her ears, which made her feel much better.
There was a commotion below as all the contestants came up. The stage was too small for everyone to stand on, so the manager had to divide the people into three groups.
