Chapter 155: No Rush
How could he not be satisfied? His mother's accounts were on there. If his father saw them, he feared that his mother would really be convicted.
Without evidence, they couldn't do anything to their mother. He was determined to burn it; it couldn't be preserved under any circumstances.
Looking at his ever-changing expressions, Rouge understood what he was thinking, but things were never that simple.
Ji Meiqing was still sitting by the stove, using tongs to pick at the coal in the copper basin, and then she stared blankly into space again.
The days did indeed seem to be dragging on, but there was still no major news from over there. Lu Yu brought over some mutton soup from outside and called her to drink it, but Ji Meiqing looked at the soup and then turned back to continue staring blankly.
She picked at the coal chunks on top before getting up and going over.
"Still no news from the authorities?"
She asked a question.
"The Ji family has taken everyone away, and now only the Qian family is struggling to stay afloat."
Upon hearing his words, Ji Meiqing counted on her fingers for a moment and then fell silent. Lu Yu, however, said directly, "I'm afraid the court will be in session soon. Without the protection of the Ji family, the Qian family is just a paper tiger."
"That's true." She placed the bowl on the table, poured some soup into it, and gave all the mutton to Lu Yu.
The mutton soup warmed her up, and after finishing a bowl, she felt much warmer. She drank the whole soup.
Although she wasn't wearing many clothes, she looked slightly sweaty, so she put them down and went outside for a stroll. Lu Yu followed behind her and handed her a cloak to drape over her shoulders.
The weather is getting colder, and the snow hasn't fallen much yet. Winter is like this; the cold feels like knives, slowly slicing through her face.
Fortunately, the cloak was draped over her in time, instantly isolating her from the cold world.
"Thank you." She looked at the person next to her and couldn't help but smile.
The two seemed to get along well, walking together on the road. Wisps of smoke rose in the distance as Ji Meiqing led him around the house.
The journey was uneventful, and neither of them knew what to say. Ji Meiqing looked at the sky; although it was midday, the sun was shining, but there was no warmth.
Lu Yu suddenly asked, "Ji Tianzhuo, how do you plan to deal with him?"
"The Ji family is useless without him," Ji Meiqing said dismissively.
Lu Yu sighed inwardly, "I heard he's addicted to gambling, so you should start there. Madam Ji's side is just an empty shell, it won't do you any good if you try to deal with her."
"You know?" She turned her head.
Lu Yu asked helplessly, "Why do you care more about the Ji family than about me?"
She lowered her head, unsure of what to say. Lu Yu had openly expressed his dissatisfaction, so bluntly, so...shamelessly.
“If you become a member of the Ji family, I might care about you even more,” she replied seriously.
Lu Yu blinked and said decisively, "You're lying."
"I didn't." She looked innocent.
Lu Yu looked at her and said, word by word, "I am now a member of the Ji family, why don't you care about me?"
"I……"
“Your surname is Ji,” Lu Yu emphasized again.
Ji Meiqing was both amused and exasperated. She had no idea when Lu Yu had become so childish. "You're barely one of my people."
"Barely?" His dark, inky eyes stared intently at her, making Ji Meiqing a little nervous.
"Did I say something wrong?"
Are you sure it's just a reluctant request?
She swallowed hard, realized the problem, and quickly denied it, "No, no."
"no?"
"It is my husband."
"Who are you?" He seemed very dissatisfied with the answer, and his face darkened.
She thought for a moment, but couldn't think of anything good to say. There wasn't a soul in sight on the street. Seeing that she was speechless, Lu Yu suddenly released her, his face filled with sorrow.
The 180-degree change in expression caught Ji Meiqing off guard.
"You... what's wrong with you?" She looked at Lu Yu nervously. A grown man was surrounded by an aura of sorrow, which was puzzling.
Her mind went blank for a moment, and she didn't know how to say anything to comfort her, "Don't be sad, don't be sad."
It seems that these are the only words I can say; I can't say anything else.
"You don't have me in your heart."
"You're here for me." She quickly offered him a way out, but Lu Yu wouldn't give up. "We're already married, and you don't care about me as much as you do about the Ji family."
"From now on, I'll only care about you." She blatantly lied through her teeth.
“You’re lying.” He could tell at a glance. “You agreed so quickly; you must be saying one thing and meaning another.”
"I do not have."
Lu Yu gave her a deep look, then walked away without a second thought. Ji Meiqing was stunned, thinking he was really angry, so she quickly ran over.
"I'm telling the truth," she said with a pleading smile, hoping he would feel better. But Lu Yu didn't even look at her and just kept walking forward. He seemed unyielding, as if nothing could stop him.
"I'm not good at sweet talk, so what do you want me to say?" She sounded aggrieved. "You're the only man I know who's married, so what do you want me to say?"
Lu Yu stopped, still feeling wronged. "If you want to hear something nice, you can go inside the building. Don't come looking for me. I'm not good with words and can't flatter people."
"I'll comfort you." He came back and hugged her.
Her eyes reddened with anxiety. "Then you still want to leave me?"
"I'm not leaving," he said softly. Ji Meiqing nudged him. "If you want to leave, then leave now. I don't want to look for you either."
"If you don't leave, you won't leave."
He held her tightly, saying, "Why is it that you only talk to me when the Ji family is mentioned?"
"I..." She was speechless for a moment, but still argued firmly, "Where did I do that?"
"Okay, okay, don't be angry anymore."
He panicked, not expecting that he almost made things irreversible.
"I didn't do it on purpose," she muttered. "Just say what you want to say..."
"Even if I told you, you wouldn't agree," he replied quietly.
"How could that be? Just tell me and I'll try my best to agree."
"When can we consummate our marriage?" He was now radiating resentment, even more intense than that of a demon.
Ji Meiqing lowered her head, not daring to look at him anymore, but still said with some resentment, "What's the rush for something like this..."
"No rush." Lu Yu turned his head back slowly, his resentment even stronger than before.
