Chapter 201: Weaving Clothes

As darkness fell, she didn't know how she had fallen asleep. Her legs and feet were completely numb and she couldn't feel them anymore.

He has to support himself on the table to get up so he can walk normally.

She went outside and stood leaning against a pillar for a while. When Grandma Mei saw her standing there in the cold wind, she became anxious.

"It's so cold outside, and you're still standing there. When Lu Yu comes back, he's going to suffer terribly!"

Ji Meiqing turned to look at her, feeling a momentary sense of unfamiliarity, but quickly regained her composure and followed her words into the room. The room didn't feel like the temperature of December; the stuffy heat was just missing a watermelon.

She sat in the chair, looking at the needles and thread in the basket beside her, and the clothes that were not yet finished, and felt a little lost for a moment.

Grandma Mei brought over some ginger soup, handed it to her, and watched her drink it.

Ji Meiqing took it too, and the icy coldness of her fingers made people shiver. Granny Mei was surprised, "Why are your hands so cold? It's like they were just taken out of an ice cave."

"I..." She looked at the soup, slowly drank it all, wiped her mouth, handed the bowl back, and said, "Could you give me two wooden needles and some yarn?"

Grandma Mei was a little curious, but she still went to her room and found two for her. Ji Meiqing took the balls of thread and started tying knots, then used a needle to tie the knots one by one. After searching for a long time, she finally managed to get a knot.

She didn't quite understand what it was, but Ji Meiqing calmed down and didn't disturb her.

The two of them quieted down and sat silently doing their own thing. Ji Meiqing was focused on knitting a sweater until it was almost time for dinner.

Grandma Mei didn't know when she left; she had only taken a small bite when Grandma Mei came to call her for dinner.

Three dishes and a soup were laid out on the table, looking warm and inviting. Ji Meiqing put down what she was holding and sat down, while Ji Tianci also came out of his room. Now they were waiting for Lu Yu.

He did not return. Frost had already fallen outside, and without the sun's rays during the day, the temperature had dropped again.

Luckily, there was a heater under the dining table. It warmed my legs nicely.

Ji Meiqing looked at the table full of dishes and said calmly, "Let's eat first. I'll cook more for him when he gets back."

As soon as she spoke, the others began to pick up their chopsticks and eat. The two buried their heads in their food, while Ji Meiqing remained seated in her chair, staring blankly at the food in front of her, as if she had seen something interesting.

It took quite a while before we started eating.

Ji Tianci suddenly put down his chopsticks and said to Ji Meiqing, "I want to participate in the spring examination tomorrow."

"Do you want to be an official?" Ji Meiqing asked in return. "If you want to be an official, then go for it. I won't stop you."

Ji Tianci hadn't expected her to agree so readily, but her next sentence stunned him.

"What I've taught you must not be revealed. If you want to become an official and pass the imperial examination with top honors, you must start studying the Four Books and Five Classics, the classics of governance, all from scratch," she said, then looked at Ji Tianci, "So, do you agree?"

Ji Tianci was also somewhat hesitant, not understanding why he couldn't use the knowledge she had given him. If he could put it to use, it would be a great help to his official career.

Ji Meiqing didn't look at him, letting him think things through on his own.

She didn't know whether he would still use those things after he promised her. All she knew was that if those things got out, they would only bring about her death.

She certainly doesn't want to go down to the lower levels to become an official and make a fortune in the future.

Seeing that he was still lost in thought, Ji Meiqing tapped his porcelain bowl with her chopsticks, waking him up. Looking at his panicked face, Ji Meiqing said calmly, "Eat first, and you can think about it slowly after you finish eating."

"Oh." He looked away and continued eating, finishing the food on the table quickly.

He continued to ponder Ji Meiqing's words, while Ji Meiqing returned to her room to continue knitting her sweater. Outside, the wind and frost were fierce, and as darkness fell, he still hadn't returned. Granny Mei grew worried and spoke to him about it.

Ji Meiqing didn't seem too worried. After reassuring her, she continued with her own business.

Before she could finish her sweater, she leaned against the soft couch and fell asleep. When Lu Yu returned and saw her like this, he couldn't help but feel sorry for her and carried her to bed so she could rest.

Ji Meiqing was also a light sleeper, and she woke up at the slightest noise. When she saw Lu Yu, she smiled, rubbed her eyes, and got off him.

"You're back. Go wash up, I'll make some side dishes for you."

She yawned and headed towards the kitchen. Lu Yu, however, pulled her back and said with a smile, "It's alright, I've already eaten. You should go and rest first."

Ji Meiqing stared at him for a long time before deciding to believe him and went back to bed. Lu Yu also quickly washed up before going to bed with her.

Lying in bed, she found it hard to fall asleep, for some reason. It was already quite late outside. After the candles were extinguished, it was pitch black.

"What's wrong? Did I disturb you?" Lu Yu suddenly asked. The quiet night naturally inspired endless imagination.

Ji Meiqing shook her head and continued to stay in his arms. The bed was cold, but his body was warm.

"I'll be done after I'm busy for a while tomorrow." He then explained why he came back so late, "Today I was brewing wine, and some of the ingredients in the recipe were hard to find, so I went to the back mountain to look for them."

"Hmm..." She nodded, saying nothing more. Lu Yu contentedly pulled her into his arms, and the two seemed to be dancing a duet.

That night, she finally fell asleep after a long time.

And so, two more days passed.

Shangguan Yuzhe was also going back, and Ji Meiqing and Lu Yu went to see him off. The weather outside was snowy and the conditions weren't ideal, and the prefect, being the local official, was also there. The three of them met, and there was a slight awkwardness between them.

The prefect was also somewhat embarrassed, but considering that the two men had some connection with the prince, he could only come over and greet them.

"Greetings, Your Excellency." She replied perfunctorily, which made the prefect even more embarrassed. Although he was very unhappy, he could not show it on his face.

Looking at Lu Yu, he smiled again, rubbing his hands together, and said, "That was truly a misjudgment on my part, causing you so much suffering. Really..."

"You're too kind, sir." He was sensible enough to return the greeting respectfully.

Ji Meiqing secretly nudged him with her elbow before looking at the prefect and giving a dry laugh.
