Chapter 336: Back to the Restaurant
As evening approached, Zhao Ning'er grew anxious as she hadn't yet reached the Drunken Immortal Pavilion. She didn't know where to go, even though it was evening; in autumn, darkness falls quickly. This rapid darkness caught Zhao Ning'er somewhat off guard.
Ji Meiqing, who was at Zuixianlou, felt something was off. She hadn't seen Zhao Ning'er all day, and even Shen Bin seemed to have vanished into thin air. She paced back and forth at the door, feeling somewhat uneasy.
Lu Yu came over at some point, put his arm around her shoulder and said, "What are you thinking about? Come inside, it's a bit cold at night." Ji Meiqing, however, lay motionless in Lu Yu's arms.
"Brother Lu, I don't know why, but I always feel uneasy. I haven't seen Ning'er and Shen Bin all day. I wonder if something has happened to them." Ji Meiqing said anxiously as she looked at the darkening sky outside and still couldn't see Zhao Ning'er.
Lu Yu, who was holding her, suddenly realized that he really hadn't seen those two people today. Sensing something was amiss, he released Ji Meiqing and said, "You stay here, I'll go out and check." Before Ji Meiqing could react, Lu Yu disappeared into the night. Ji Meiqing watched Lu Yu's departing figure, ran a few steps towards the door, and when he was out of sight, stood there, staring blankly into the distance.
Yin Lie, who was looking at the ledger behind the counter, saw Ji Meiqing follow Lu Yu after he left, and was a little worried about her. Seeing Ji Meiqing staring into the distance, lost in thought, he went over and said, "Miss Ji, Young Master Lu will be fine. You should go inside. It's a bit cold outside, don't catch a cold."
Ji Meiqing turned around and saw Yin Lie following her out. She nodded and said, "I understand. Let's go inside." After saying that, she went inside. After Lu Yu went out, he used his lightness skill to go to the only road leading to the palace.
He leaped into the tree, taking in the entire scene. The only road to the palace was in a sparsely populated suburb. Standing in the tree, Lu Yu saw a carriage. Although he didn't know if it was Zhao Ning'er and the others, he didn't act rashly and remained in the tree, watching the people inside the carriage.
The carriage would sometimes go west, sometimes east, and then it would simply stop in one place. Lu Yu stood in the tree watching the carriage's movements and found it somewhat amusing; it turned out the carriage's owner had no sense of direction.
"Ah!!" Suddenly, a scream came from inside the carriage. Lu Yu didn't know what had happened, but he saw a dark green light and heard the scream. It sounded familiar, and he felt a sense of unease. It was Zhao Ning'er.
In the blink of an eye, he leaped down from the tree, dagger in hand, and stabbed at the animal emitting a dark green glow. The animal instantly collapsed to the ground. It was a wolf, and blood splattered all over Lu Yu's face and body.
Zhao Ning'er, upon seeing the hungry wolf, was at a loss for what to do and stood frozen in place. When the wolf suddenly pounced, she could only cover her face and avoid looking. After a long while, the expected pain didn't occur. Opening her eyes, she saw Lu Yu and, as if seeing a lifeline, said, "Brother Lu, you've finally come! I got lost here, and Young Master Shen has a fever." As she spoke, tears streamed down her face uncontrollably.
Shen Bin looked at the hungry wolf lying in a pool of blood and said, "We can't stay here any longer. This wolf is dead, and there will definitely be a pack of wolves later. That will be troublesome. We can talk about it when we get back. You go inside, and I'll drive the horses."
After saying this, Zhao Ning'er wiped away her tears and got into the carriage. Looking at Shen Bin, who was shivering inside, she hugged him tightly, wanting him to feel some warmth. Shen Bin stayed still in Zhao Ning'er's arms, and feeling a little warmth, he slowly fell asleep.
She didn't know how much time had passed when Zhao Ning'er, sitting in the carriage, felt some light. She knew they must have arrived in the bustling city. She hugged Shen Bin tightly and whispered, "We're home, we're home." As she spoke, she couldn't stop crying and immediately wiped away her tears.
"We're here, get out." Shen Bin stopped the carriage and said to Zhao Ning'er inside. Zhao Ning'er helped Shen Bin, who was lying in her arms, up.
Ji Meiqing, who was in the restaurant, ran out as soon as she heard the noise outside. She smiled when she saw Lu Yu, but then noticed bloodstains on his face, hands, and clothes. She walked over and grabbed his hand with concern, looking him over and asking, "What happened to you? Why are you covered in blood?"
Lu Yu waved his hand and said, "I'm fine, there was a little accident on the way. Young Master Shen doesn't seem to be doing very well." After Lu Yu finished speaking, Ji Meiqing noticed Zhao Ning'er and Shen Bin standing to the side. Shen Bin seemed to be injured or something, and he was being supported by Zhao Ning'er, looking very weak.
He walked over and asked, "Ning'er, what's wrong with Young Master Shen?" Zhao Ning'er wanted to go over and help him, but because men and women shouldn't touch each other, she withdrew her outstretched hand. Seeing this, Lu Yu stepped forward to support Shen Bin, and Zhao Ning'er finally felt a little relieved.
Just as she was about to answer Ji Meiqing's question, she suddenly remembered that Shen Bin was still groaning, so she grabbed Lu Yu anxiously and said, "Brother Lu, please take a look at Young Master Shen. He seems to have a fever." Seeing how worried Zhao Ning'er was, Ji Meiqing quickly said to Lu Yu, "Brother Lu, please take Young Master Shen and have Old Man Yin take a look at him."
Shen Bin nodded, and Lu Yu helped him into the restaurant. The customers in the restaurant didn't seem to care much when they saw Shen Bin, but when they saw the bloodstains on Shen Bin's face, hands, and body, they looked at Lu Yu with some unease. Lu Yu looked at Yin Lie behind the counter and said, "I hope Uncle Yin can take Young Master Shen's pulse." After saying that, he quickly led Shen Bin to the back hall.
Yin Lie followed Lu Yu to the back hall. Lu Yu had Shen Bin lie flat on the bed, and Yin Lie sat on the edge of the bed to take his pulse. He frowned and said, "Young Master Shen seems to have a cold attacking his heart, and he still has a fever. I will write a prescription, and Young Master Lu can go to the pharmacy to get the medicine tomorrow. Tonight, he can only drink some ginger soup to get through it."
Lu Yu looked at Shen Bin lying on the bed, his face pale, and wondered what had happened.
Ji Meiqing pulled Zhao Ning'er to the room in the attic. As soon as Zhao Ning'er entered the room, she hugged Ji Meiqing and cried, saying, "Sister Ji, today... today Young Master Shen and I almost... almost died in the palace." As she spoke, her crying became more and more intense. Ji Meiqing initially thought it was nothing serious, but realizing it involved lives, she felt that things were not so simple.
"Ning'er, tell me what happened slowly," Ji Meiqing said, patting her back reassuringly. Zhao Ning'er gradually calmed down and recounted the events of the day.
