Chapter 283 The Soiled Letter
Chapter 283 The Soiled Letter
The bloody scene before them was like a bombshell dropped on the attracted criminals. Among them, a female prisoner screamed in terror and collapsed to the ground, her pupils trembling uncontrollably.
The other criminals also stared wide-eyed, their faces filled with terror as they retreated hastily. The man in gray, after being stabbed repeatedly, gradually went limp and finally fell silent, showing no signs of life. Several knife wounds on his body gushed blood like an open faucet, spreading it wildly across the ground.
The burly man stared at the dead man in gray, cursed angrily, and spat a glob of phlegm onto the corpse's face. He turned around, ignoring the strange and fearful looks directed at him, but strode away from the dining area with an air of nonchalance, leaving behind only the gruesome corpse and a group of terrified criminals.
After the burly man had completely left the dining area, Qiuhe slowly walked out of the restroom with his hands in his pockets. His gaze was calm as he swept over the panicked crowd outside and the blood-stained corpse on the ground. His eyes showed no emotion, as if the dead body on the ground was merely a stinking rat from the sewer.
Qiuhe stepped forward, gradually approaching the gray-clad man's corpse. He crouched down, manipulating the magic within his body. After observing the body for a while, he determined that the man was undeniably dead. Then, he turned his gaze to the pile of mechanical fragments on the ground beside him, carefully moving them gently with his hand.
The mechanical device had been completely shattered into pieces, seemingly beyond any possibility of reuse. Meanwhile, far away in Zhidong, the doctor was observing a child lying on the experimental table before him, his abdomen ripped open and his face peeled off, yet still struggling to breathe.
Within the muscles of the child's abandoned abdomen and face, a faint flow of elemental energy was circulating. This flow gradually dissipated after the child finally stopped breathing. The doctor was recording the findings in his catalog when…
His hand, which was rapidly gliding across the paper with the pen, suddenly stopped halfway through writing. He froze for a few seconds, then slowly put down the catalog and removed the bird-beak mask covering his face. Beside the left eye of the mask was a nest-shaped mechanical device, which seemed to be frozen in place.
The doctor simply stared quietly at the mechanical device, seemingly deep in thought. Meanwhile, Qiuhe, having confirmed that there would be no unexpected changes, relaxed and returned to his table. Seeing Qiuhe return, Leosley asked expressionlessly:
"You said to ignore everything that happens, but do you know what you're doing?" Qiuhe casually took a bite of meat from his bowl, chewed it, and replied, "It's not appropriate to tell you about me right now. Just understand that that person is far more than just a criminal; his death is the price he deserved."
Hearing this ambiguous answer, Leosley was at a loss for words. In her eyes, Qiuhe was like an egg shrouded in layers of mist; whether it would hatch into a beautiful bird or a ferocious beast, she couldn't know. But one thing was certain: Leosley trusted Siegwen's eyes, no matter what this egg would ultimately hatch.
Since it certainly wasn't an evil creature, Leosley ultimately stopped asking questions. The body of the gray-clad man surrounded by the crowd was investigated by the arriving prison guards and then disposed of. While Qiuhe and the other man were eating, another guard approached their table with a letter.
He casually tossed the letter to Qiuhe, his face full of disdain as he coldly said, "Here, your letter." Qiuhe, seeing it was his letter, showed a flicker of doubt in his eyes.
As he picked up the envelope and looked at the address, "Krei, Peruvieri, Senna, Lily, and your friends at the Hearth House," a gleam of joy flashed in Akikawa's eyes.
A bright smile bloomed on her face, a smile so innocent and adorable, usually reserved for children, that Leosley's curiosity about Akikawa only grew stronger. However, Akikawa's initially smiling face darkened when she noticed the envelope had been opened.
The childlike joy faded, replaced by a sense of panic and unease. He hurriedly opened the envelope and pulled the letter out...
A pool of thick, yellowish phlegm stretched out in a long thread from the seal, and a large snotty snot smeared in the middle of the letter. Qiuhe was dumbfounded. The name written at the bottom of the letter and the handwriting in the middle were somewhat blurred.
However, it was still possible to see that it said the names of Clay and the others, but Clay's part was so blurred by the yellowish phlegm that only a tiny bit could be seen.
Recalling the disdain on the administrator's face and his tone, a vein bulged on Qiuhe's forehead. The administrator, after delivering the letter, turned to leave, muttering something under his breath as he went.
"Wild dogs,"
As soon as the administrator finished speaking, Qiuhe slammed his hand down on the dining table. The tables in the Mero Petersburg dining area were made of thick iron, but Qiuhe had managed to fold the corner of his table around, causing the clay pot on it to bounce up and spill soup, meat chunks, and potatoes all over the table.
The loud noise startled everyone around, and even some nearby administrators who were still investigating the gray-clad man's incident and hadn't completely disappeared were drawn to look in this direction.
The mail carrier was also startled by the sudden loud noise and turned around abruptly. He then saw Qiuhe standing behind him with a grim face. Before the carrier could react, Qiuhe swiftly kicked out twice, leaving two clear afterimages, accompanied by two almost simultaneous cracking sounds of bones breaking.
The administrator's knee snapped instantly, and he burrowed into the ground like an ostrich. "Aaaaaah!!!" The pain of his broken leg tore at every nerve, and a heart-wrenching scream, like a deafening explosion, burst from his mouth. His body, losing its support, fell forward, and Qiuhe grabbed his hair tightly as he fell.
An unbearable pain accompanied by a violent pulling on his head forced the administrator to open his eyes. He saw that Qiuhe's killing intent was visibly overflowing, and his sharp, piercing eyes were devouring his soul like a ghoul.
Then Qiuhe slowly held up the letter, which was still dripping with phlegm, in front of the administrator, and asked in a deep voice with extreme anger, "Did you do this?"
Hearing this furious question, the administrator froze for a few seconds, then, overcome with fear, pulled out an iron rod from his waist and swung it at Qiuhe's head. Qiuhe easily grabbed the administrator's wrist and twisted it off with a single, powerful blow.
The administrator, whose wrist had been severed, let out another agonizing scream, and the iron rod fell to the ground. Qiuhe, his face grim, asked, "Leosley, you should be finished eating by now."
From the moment Qiuhe folded the steel table, Leosley sat dumbfounded in his chair, staring intently at Qiuhe's every move. He only snapped out of his daze after hearing Qiuhe's question, but clearly didn't understand what Qiuhe meant.
Upon seeing this, Qiuhe walked to the dining table without saying a word, pressing his palm firmly against the side of the casserole. And just a second or two later, the broth in the casserole began to boil again.
Then, to the astonishment of the surrounding prisoners, Leosley, and the guards who were closing in on Qiuhe, Qiuhe grabbed the guard's head and shoved it into the boiling cauldron.
"Qiuhe!" However, just as the administrator's nose was millimeters from the boiling soup, a delicate, sweet, and gentle shout made Qiuhe stop. He looked at the bubbling soup in the pot, and the rising steam that felt like a sauna covering the administrator's face.
Qiuhe slowly turned his head to look to the side, and saw Xigewen running towards him with worried and flustered eyes. She came to his side and took Qiuhe's hand. "Qiuhe," she whispered gently, calling Qiuhe's name, her beautiful and lovely ruby-like eyes sparkling.
Everything seemed to be calling upon the last vestige of conscience in Qiuhe's heart. Looking at Siegwen's face, and then remembering how the letter Clay had written to him had been defiled by this beastly administrator, Qiuhe's teeth clenched so tightly they trembled, and the hand Siegwen held in hers shook uncontrollably.
Feeling Qiuhe's trembling hands, and seeing the grievance and boundless hatred filling his eyes, Xigewen took it all in. She gently raised her hand and lightly stroked Qiuhe's face. "Whatever this gentleman did to cause Qiuhe such distress, Qiuhe can come and tell me."
Besides, he's probably learned his lesson by now, so Qiuhe, please let him go, okay?
