Chapter 104 One wave subsides, another rises
A man walked down a dimly lit, seemingly endless corridor, holding a cat in his arms.
"I told you not to climb such high shelves, did you hurt yourself?" The man tenderly rubbed the kitten's injured front leg, but the kitten meowed, jumped out of the man's arms, and swiped at his arm in return.
The man shook his head helplessly and had no choice but to follow the cat.
The cat came to the back garden, jumped onto a stone tablet and closed its eyes to rest.
A cherry tree grows in the back garden, and vines climb the surrounding walls. Clumps of unidentified flowers and shrubs grow around it. The sky is getting dark, and since this garden is located on the outskirts of Tottori, the classical garden lamps standing to the side make the place even more tranquil.
But the six tombstones standing in a neat row in the back garden, coupled with the rustling of the wind, made the place seem somewhat desolate.
The man was already used to his cat's habit of closing its eyes in the sunset.
Feeling the gentle breeze, the man sat down on the ground in front of the monument.
Why do the crows sing?
Because there are seven of the most adorable children waiting for her to come home on that high mountain.
[…]
The man softly hummed an unknown lullaby, as if lulling a small child to sleep, even though all that was in front of him were six tombstones and a cat.
……
“It won’t be a big deal,” Pei Nuo said calmly, extending a glass of water to Bai Yexiu. “No matter what you do, I will always support you. Here.”
Bai Yexiu and Pei Nuo exchanged a smile and then extended their glasses to him.
Ding--
Two glasses filled with plain water clinked together, producing a clear and melodious sound.
……
Before leaving, Pei Nuo left behind more than 10 boxes of such special painkillers. After blocking out the pain in his body, Bai Yexiu was also motivated to carry out the mission.
Bai Yexiu understood that the war between him and his father had quietly begun from the moment he allowed Amuro Tooru to investigate his clothes, but now was not the time to turn against him.
Having brought enough equipment, Bai Yexiu went to carry out his mission as usual.
……
Shinichi Kudo and Ran Mouri were sitting face to face, unaware that on the rooftop of the building opposite them, Hakuya Xiu was observing them through a sniper scope.
He's been lying there for half an hour, but his target still hasn't appeared.
Bai Yexiu licked his lips with interest, pondering whether to play a chasing game with Kudo Shinichi, when suddenly an ominous premonition filled his body, causing him to immediately put away his gun and squat down.
Immediately, a bullet struck the spot where he had just been standing.
If Bai Yexiu hadn't reacted in time, the bullet would have already pierced through his shoulder.
It's really a wave of unrest, a wave of another.
Bai Yexiu sighed, quickly stood up, raised his gun, and looked at the spot where the bullet had been fired. What he saw startled him—
Shuichi Akai.
Then came several bullets fired by Shuichi Akai, but Hakuya Xiu nimbly and gracefully dodged them, successfully reaching behind the rooftop iron gate, where the gate took the last bullet for him.
Shuichi Akai frowned, seemingly shocked that he hadn't managed to injure his opponent at all. But then, a bullet flew towards him unexpectedly, grazing his ear and leaving a gash.
The mysterious sniper on the other side retaliated.
That person not only dodged all his bullets with agility, but also found his weakness and injured him. His sniping skills were almost on par with his own... The last person he encountered like that was Gin.
The other person was wearing a hat and a mask, so their face couldn't be seen, but judging from their figure, it was obvious that it wasn't Gin, and they were probably a minor in middle or high school.
Blood had just begun to flow from the wound on his earlobe when another bullet pierced his heart. Shuichi Akai had no choice but to stop his attack and crouch down to dodge the fatal blow, but he was still grazed on the shoulder by the bullet.
On the other side, after retaliating, Bai Yexiu put his gun back into his guitar case and immediately sent emails to Gin, Rum, and Vermouth, along with Akai Shuichi's current exact location.
After finishing these tasks, Bai Yexiu chose to retreat, since he didn't have many bullets with him, and continuing the standoff would not do him any good.
Since the building didn't have an elevator, Bai Yexiu had to take the stairs. However, because there were windows in the stairwell, Bai Yexiu was once again exposed to Akai Shuichi's gun.
Splash!
Inside the stairwell, Bai Yexiu was soaked by broken glass.
Because the stairwell was narrow, there was nowhere to hide from the glass shattered by Shuichi Akai. As he passed through the glass on each floor, Shirayuki could only use his guitar case to shield himself from the broken glass as much as possible to avoid getting too many cuts on his body.
When Bai Yexiu successfully reached the less crowded back door on the first floor, his hands and part of his neck were still covered in small, fine wounds that were quite shocking. Even some shards of glass had gotten into his clothes.
Once outside, Bai Yexiu deftly tossed his trench coat, covered in shards of glass, into a nearby garbage truck. The driver, oblivious, started the truck and sped away, kicking up dust, the coat barely out of the truck.
Seeing that the mysterious sniper had disappeared, Shuichi Akai wiped the blood from his earlobe, put away his equipment, and pressed his advantage. Although the wound on his shoulder was throbbing and bleeding, he was wearing a black coat, so passersby would hardly notice anything.
Before even leaving the rooftop, Shuichi Akai spotted a familiar car – a Porsche 356A.
A hypothesis is slowly taking shape...
……
Gin's car turned onto a side road and stopped in front of Byakuya.
Seeing the fine wounds on Bai Yexiu's hands and neck, Gin, unusually, did not mock or berate him, but instead tossed the first-aid kit from the car to Bai Yexiu.
"Why did Akai suddenly come to Tokyo on his own? Wasn't he always avoiding us before?" Bai Yexiu said, slightly annoyed, as he rummaged through the first-aid kit for bandages.
"Where might he go now?" Gin asked bluntly.
"Okay, it seems you don't care about me at all, Gin-chan," Bai Yexiu said resentfully as he began to bandage his wound. But Gin clearly didn't like Bai Yexiu's nonsense and gave him a murderous glare.
"Fine, fine..." Bai Yexiu said sullenly, "It's right for us to leave now. Akai Shuichi is probably on his way out of the Daiki Building. If you want to take this opportunity to ambush him, then take me with you. I want revenge. You know I'm petty."
With a single glance from Gin, Vodka understood and immediately floored the gas pedal and sped off.
A patrol car arrived late behind their vehicle, and he stared into thought as he looked at all the broken windows in the building's stairwells.
Who on earth is so bored as to smash all the stairwell windows of an entire building late at night?
