Chapter 413 Ms. Eileen
Chapter 413 Ms. Eileen
The recent progress of Kaka and Ren in the card world is quite good.
Together they studied the properties of the Eye of All Things, experimented with various card combinations, and even secretly conducted some dangerous experiments—such as fusing the energy of low-level cards with that of mid-level cards.
"Look! It's a success!" Kaka's cheers erupted in the laboratory late one night.
After countless failures, they finally managed to give a low-level Water Ripple card a temporary effect equivalent to a mid-level Water Tornado.
As Renn stared at the card in his hand that was shining with an unusual light, a storm raged within him.
This proves his theory wrong—nobles do not possess the powerful ability to summon cards because of their status.
"This means that, theoretically, low-level cards, with proper guidance, can achieve the effect of mid-level cards," Kaka said excitedly. "Although the duration is limited, this is a breakthrough!"
Raine remained silent; he should have been pleased with the discovery.
But at this moment, he felt a sense of confusion he had never felt before.
If the power of the nobility does not stem entirely from privilege, then where should his long-standing anger be directed?
So, is it all just his pettiness and jealousy at play?
"Raine? Are you alright?" Kaka asked with concern.
"It's nothing, it's just...too shocking." He forced a smile.
Kaka tilted her head and looked at him: "You know what? Sometimes I feel like you're hiding a lot of secrets."
Ryan's heart suddenly raced: "What do you mean?"
"I just feel like you're more than just a blacksmith's apprentice," Kaka said with a smile. "Your knowledge is so broad, and your understanding of cards is exceptionally profound. I bet your father or mother must be a card master?"
Rein breathed a sigh of relief, then felt a pang of guilt: "My father once studied card theory."
"I knew it!" Kaka said proudly. "Once our research is complete, I'm going to suggest to Father that we establish a card academy, and you could be a lecturer, how about that?"
Renn's eyes widened: "Your Highness, this is far too much."
"What's the point of overstepping boundaries? Ability is the most important thing." Kaka patted him on the shoulder. "Alright, it's too late today, we'll continue tomorrow."
As he left the laboratory, Ryan's feelings were extremely complicated.
He originally planned to publicly reveal the "truth" about the power of the noble cards after gathering enough evidence, but now he finds himself growing to like this sincere, enthusiastic, and unpretentious princess more and more.
Worse still, his theories are being overturned by experiment after experiment.
Back at his temporary lodgings, Ryan took out a notebook from under his mattress, which contained the "evidence" he planned to make public.
Looking back at these things that were once taken for granted, I am now filled with doubts.
"What am I doing?" he muttered to himself.
Just then, there was a gentle knock on the door.
Raine alertly put away his notebook: "Who?"
"it's me!"
When Raine opened the door, he found a woman in a black robe standing in front of him.
Aren't you going to invite me in?
The woman pushed open the door and went in on her own, even opening the notebook that Ryan had casually put down earlier.
"Who are you? Put those things down!" Renn quietly prepared his cards.
"Put away those low-level cards." The woman removed the black robe that had been covering her.
"Ms. Eileen!"
How could this be? Renn was somewhat incredulous. Who in the kingdom didn't know that Lady Eileen was the chief card master of the court and the princess's teacher?
"Ms. Eileen, may I ask what brings you here?" Renn silently put away his cards.
“Raine, I know what you’re planning.” Ms. Eileen’s words made Raine’s heart jump again.
I don't know what you're talking about?
"How could that be, Renn? Your plan is excellent. Go ahead and do it. I'll help you!" Eileen patted him on the shoulder.
"Ms. Eileen, do you know what I'm going to do?" Ryan asked, somewhat puzzled.
"Of course I know!"
"Then, does the princess know?"
"How could the princess possibly know? Renn, didn't I tell you I would help you?"
"Why? Aren't you already the chief card master of the palace?"
"That's well said. Since I already have such great strength, why was the Princess still able to summon the Eye of All Things card? Was it because she was dozing off in class or wasn't familiar with the summoning method?"
Ms. Eileen could hardly contain her jealousy and malice.
“Princess, she’s not that kind of person!” Renn retorted.
“Raine, do I need to remind you? Once the princess finds out about your plans and actions, do you think she'll still treat you the same way as before?”
“I…” Renn hesitated.
"Raine, you're a smart man, you know what to do! If you go back on your word, there are ways I can help you!"
Eileen made a series of threats and then left.
Ryan sat dejectedly on the bed when there was another knock on the door.
"Who?" Has Ms. Eileen returned again?
“It’s me, old Mary,” a familiar voice came from outside the door.
Ryan opened the door and let the old woman selling fruit in: "What can I do for you so late?"
Old Mary looked anxious: "Raine, something's happened to your sister. That...that nobleman is here again."
Renn's face turned deathly pale instantly.
The noble card player who harmed his sister three years ago has reappeared in the south of the city.
"How is your sister?"
“It’s alright, my neighbor blocked the attack in time with a protective card. But Renn, your sister told me to tell you, whatever you’re planning, stop. She said that nobleman mentioned the palace, mentioned the princess…”
Raine's blood seemed to freeze; so this was Ms. Eileen's backup plan.
"Thank you, old Mary. I'll go back to see my sister first thing tomorrow morning."
After seeing the old woman off, Ryan sat on the edge of the bed, lost in thought.
The next morning, just as Raine was about to ask for leave from the palace, he was told that Princess Kaka wanted to see him urgently.
In the princess's private study, Kaka's expression was unusually serious: "Rein, something's happened. Last night, someone broke into the Royal Card Vault and stole several Tier 3 attack cards."
Ryan's heart tightened: "Is there...is there a clue?"
"The guard said he saw a dark figure heading south of the city." Kaka stared at him. "I remember you said you lived in the south of the city?"
Raine felt a wave of dizziness.
Is this a coincidence or a trap?
"Yes, but I was in my palace quarters all night."
“I know,” Kaka nodded. “I believe you.”
“In fact,” she lowered her voice, “I suspect this was Lord Arti’s doing. He has always opposed my research into low-level card enhancement techniques.”
Renn was surprised by the princess's trust, yet also felt guilty for having concealed this from her: "Why did Your Highness tell me this?"
