Chapter 52: Mirajane, Lisanna, Elfman
Chapter 52: Mirajane, Lisanna, Elfman
Did Grandpa Makarov bring back three more children?
Seeing the group of one old man and three young men at the door, Moen was not surprised at all.
Most of the children in the Fairy Tail guild were taken in by Grandpa Makarov, including Moen himself.
Grandpa Makarov was dressed fairly normally today, in a dark blue casual outfit with a yellow practice uniform underneath. Although he was still unusually short for a normal person, at least he no longer looked like a character actor in a theater troupe.
With the three children in tow, Makarov entered the guild, introducing "Fairy Tail" to them as they walked.
"This is Fairy Tail, a mage guild, a warm family made up of many mages."
Makarov walked to the bar with his hands behind his back, then jumped up and plopped down on it.
There's nothing we can do about it; he's just too short. If he doesn't sit at the bar, he simply can't drink and eat properly.
"Airo, bring me a bottle of wine."
Makarov called out to Airo, who had already started working.
Then he pointed to the three chairs in front of him, indicating that the three new children should come and sit around him.
"Drinking so early in the morning, Chairman, you should take care of your health."
While clearing away the dishes, Airo offered Makarov a word of advice.
"Airo, why have you become so long-winded?"
Airo's well-intentioned advice was met with a complaint from Makarov, which made Airo shake his head with a helpless smile. He could only place a bottle of shochu next to Makarov, along with a glass, and thoughtfully pour him some wine.
"At eighty-two years old, it's time to take care of your health."
Moen came over and offered a word of advice, but he knew it would be useless.
"Your grandpa is in good health."
Makarov retorted, but continued to do as he pleased, picking up his cup, taking a sip, and letting out a long, satisfied sigh.
Relying on his abundant magical power, even at the age of eighty-two, Makarov could do whatever he wanted with his body. Unless his magical power was depleted, he rarely even got sick. Drinking a little alcohol was nothing to him, but it might cause him to make mistakes.
Moen stopped trying to persuade him. If he did, it would be his personal opinion, and he was just trying to be a dutiful junior. Since drinking doesn't have much of an impact on health, there's no need to insist that Grandpa Makarov quit drinking.
Who are these three children?
Moen's gaze fell on the three new children. All three had white hair, and it was obvious that they were from the same family.
The girl, who was about the same height as Erza and looked like her older sister, had a gloomy expression on her face. Her thin body was tightly tucked into her cloak, especially her arms, which were not exposed at all.
Moen could sense that her right arm was radiating an evil magic.
Next to the girl, a little girl in a pink dress was very cute, giving off a well-behaved and adorable vibe.
As for the boy, he probably resembled his father more, with a rather rugged appearance and skin that was a completely different shade from the two fair-skinned girls. If it weren't for his striking white hair, you wouldn't be able to tell that he was related to the two girls at all.
"When I arrived, I saw them outside the guild, watching Natsu and the others fooling around, so I called them in."
Makarov answered while drinking.
This time, he didn't actually pick up these three kids from outside; they came to his door on their own. He met these three kids outside the Fairy Tail guild gate.
"You... looking all travel-worn, have you run away from home? Did you come here specifically to seek refuge with Fairy Tail?"
Moen asked the three of them, wondering if Fairy Tail's reputation as a magic orphanage had become widespread.
The three children in front of him were filthy, clearly having been homeless for a long time, looking even worse off than when Moen had been sleeping in the Vas Tree Sea.
Grandpa Makarov would call them to the guild, which was also related to the fact that the three children clearly weren't living a good life.
"No, we just happened to be passing by..."
The girl wearing a cloak answered, her voice low and somber, which matched her melancholy expression perfectly, giving off a generally dejected vibe.
After saying that, the girl stopped talking and became withdrawn, just like Erza when she first joined the guild, with the main theme being "full of stories".
"We were driven out by the villagers..."
Unlike their autistic older sister, the younger sister and brother were quite proactive, chatting away.
The three are named Strauss. The autistic older sister is named Mirajane, the cute younger sister is named Lisanna, and the dark-skinned and rugged younger brother is named Elfman.
The reason they were driven out of the village and ended up living a homeless life on the streets is because the eldest sister, Mirajane, was possessed by a demon.
"Possessed by a demon? I'm afraid not."
After hearing the three people's story, Moen looked surprised. He was not surprised that Mirajane was possessed by a demon, but that the girl had magical talent.
A demon appeared in their village church, and Mirajane, being both impulsive and enthusiastic, went straight into the church to drive the demon out of the village.
During the battle, she absorbed the demon into her body, which caused her arm to become what it is now.
"Could you take that arm out so I can see it?"
Moen politely asked his autistic sister, Mirajane.
Mirajane did not answer. She reluctantly took her right hand out of the cloak, her eyes filled with disgust as she looked at the arm.
Her right arm was dark red and extremely dry, with many purple, crystal-like protrusions on it, so dense that it would trigger trypophobia in anyone who saw it.
"That's right, it wasn't being possessed by a demon, but rather receiving magic, a kind of magic that allows the power of a demon to reside within one's body."
Makarov swirled his wine glass, confirming Moen's judgment: Mirajane was not possessed by a demon, but rather had received that demon.
During her battle with the demon, Mirajane awakened her magical talent, "Receive Magic".
Mirajane would not have been able to defeat the demon wreaking havoc in the village if she hadn't successfully awakened the "receiving magic".
"Magical Awakening" is something that only extremely talented mages can experience.
Ordinary mages need to learn and meditate to mobilize magical power in order to use and control magic, while true geniuses only need "magical awakening" to automatically master magic.
The last person Moen had ever seen to "awaken magic" was Erza. According to Erza, she also suddenly had a burst of magic power and directly gained control of "Changing Magic Knight".
