The feeling of "the enemy is in the dark while I am in the light" is still very annoying. Therefore, no matter how time-consuming and laborious it is, Moen must find out those worms hiding in the dark and not let them feel that their actions are without consequences.
These insects don't have the guts to come directly to our door; they only resort to underhanded tricks to sneak up on us, which is truly despicable.
Of course, it must be admitted that this insect is quite something.
At least this ancient Humphera "exchange magic" has some merit; it is indeed a very unexpected trick.
"That's how it is in a world with magic. You never know what kind of tricks the enemy will pull, so even a lion has to go all out to catch a rabbit."
Having grown up in a mage guild and witnessed all sorts of strange and wonderful magic since childhood, Moen has always firmly believed in this.
Unless one is truly immune to all evil and can nullify any magic, one must be careful when facing an opponent with unknown methods.
Therefore, when sending people to investigate these dismissed employees of the "Magic Council", Moen also emphasized "safety issues", and that at least three people should be in a team before setting off.
Even for Erza, an S-rank character, Moen wouldn't allow her to go alone.
In a direct, real fight, Moen wasn't worried about Erza at all; there weren't many people who could reliably defeat her. However, she had to be extremely careful when facing all sorts of strange magic.
Makarov strongly supported this point. With his many years of experience, he was more than qualified to speak on the matter. They had almost been defeated by some inexplicable and strange magic many times, which was much more difficult than facing a powerful enemy.
At the request of Moen and Makarov, everyone formed teams to go out and search for people, with Moen himself mainly responsible for searching for the target.
The crows kept circling in the sky, searching for the figures on the list, and sending a team over for each target they found.
Soon, a crow brought the news again.
There were quite a few of those people near Magnolia, which made Moen wonder if they were working as a group.
Many people have already been sent out to investigate the ones that were discovered earlier, and now there are not many people left in the guild. Without any hesitation, Moen prepared to personally take charge.
"Then I'm off."
Moen turned to Mirajane behind the bar and said something.
"Want me to come along?"
Mirajane tilted her head slightly and asked with great concern, "Everyone else is in groups of three, there's no reason to let Moen go on an adventure alone."
"Then, should we let Lisanna take over?"
Moen responded with a smile. He did not refuse, but the work had to be arranged. Fortunately, Lisanna was in the guild, so she could fill in for him.
"?! Why?! I can go with Moen too!"
Upon hearing this, Lisanna immediately raised her hand in protest, expressing her dissatisfaction. She wanted to participate in this matter, so why was she the one left to work?!
"Let's talk when you're stronger than me."
Mirajane responded to her younger sister's protest with a smile, leaving Lisanna speechless. She was simply not as capable as her older sister Mirajane; their strengths were not on the same level.
"Being weak means you have no human rights!"
With a look of grief and indignation, Lisanna walked behind the bar and switched shifts with Mirajane. She could only helplessly accept reality.
The demon girl Lillian covered her mouth and chuckled to herself. When she wasn't at her own stall, she would help out at the guild bar, mixing drinks and fruit beverages.
Moen and Mirajane ignored their sister Lisanna's nagging and set off directly. They didn't need to prepare anything, since their destination was near "Magnolia".
"The target is in a manor outside the city. He's hidden quite well and has hardly ever left. My crows have been flying over there for days but haven't seen him. It seems this precise search has been somewhat effective; he may have already received the news."
On the way, Moen told Mira Jane about the target's situation. The reason he had to personally take action was because this target was clearly unusual, probably a leader or something similar. The others who were discovered were always out and about, but this guy had been hiding all along, so he must have a special identity.
"Have we finally found them? It really is them..."
'
Mirajane looked serious, feeling very angry. These guys from the "Magic Council" were dismissed, yet instead of causing trouble for the "Magic Council," they came to "Magnolia" to annoy them. What did they mean by that? Did they think they were easy to bully?
"They probably think we are the culprits behind everything they have suffered, and they also think we are easier to deal with. Compared to the more formal and well-organized Newcomer Magic Council, our guild is indeed easier for them to succeed against."
Moen smiled; he could roughly guess the reason.
These people don't have much real strength, so they can only resort to such tricks. The newly formed "Magic Council," under the leadership of Gran Doma, is now very strict in its internal self-examination, and is determined not to let the previous "Jeral incident" happen again.
These people have been expelled, and it will be quite difficult for them to infiltrate the Magic Council again. Fairy Tail, on the other hand, has it relatively easy, since the Mage Guild is open to accepting commissions.
"Hmph! They picked the wrong opponent."
Mirajane snorted. She didn't think those people could defeat them; at most, they could only do some petty tricks to annoy them.
"If this guy uses ancient Humberah magic again, that would be really troublesome."
Moen spoke with a smile, which made Mira Jane's face tighten. She couldn't help but roll her eyes at Moen. She remembered what had happened a few days ago, and her face began to heat up.
"But if he tries to use the exchange again, we don't need to be afraid, because I've already memorized that spell."
Moen seemed completely oblivious to Mirajane's rapidly escalating emotions, and continued speaking with an air of absolute confidence.
"6
'
Mirajane bit her lip and rolled her eyes at Moen again, knowing that Moen had brought it up on purpose.
"If we really do switch, I'll kill you if you dare touch me again!"
Seeing Moen trying not to laugh, Mirajane waved her little fist and said fiercely, but then she couldn't help but laugh herself.
"Don't worry, I definitely won't touch you inappropriately."
Moen nodded seriously and made a promise.
"We need to be more serious this time."
Then, before Mirajane could react, Moen had already sped up and run away, leaving behind the rest of his sentence.
"Hey! Don't talk nonsense!"
Mirajane was stunned for a moment, then her face turned red. She called out and chased after him in embarrassment and annoyance. She looked like she was angry, but the smile on her lips betrayed her.
After the little misunderstanding last time, Mirajane felt that her relationship with Moen had taken a step forward. Now she could joke about things like this, even though they were things that were so embarrassing.
The two joked and laughed all the way, their figures quickly passing through the deepening twilight and forest paths outside the city. They didn't waste any time and soon arrived outside the city, at the manor.
This is a somewhat old manor, with vines climbing the walls and the tall iron gate showing signs of rust, giving it an overall eerie atmosphere.
Meanwhile, the target was outside the gate, already boarding a carriage.
"Looks like we've come at the right time."
Moen looked serious, blocking Mirajane's hand that was trying to pinch him while staring at the carriage at the manor gate.
"Let's just stop him."
Mirajane pinched Moen's arm hard to vent her anger, and then immediately tried to stop the man.
"Yes, let's stop them."
Moen thought about it and felt there was no need to follow them. It would be better to just take them down and interrogate them. After all, they had too little information right now. They should capture them first and deal with the rest later.
"Hurry, hurry!"
Outside the manor, Karel kept urging the coachman on. This place was no longer safe to stay in. The Fairy Tail people were much more difficult to deal with than he had thought. They had locked onto them so quickly, faster than he had imagined, giving them no chance to make a move. Some of them had already been captured.
"shelf!"
The coachman lashed his whip at the horses, but unfortunately, neither horse moved; they just stood there stiffly.
"What's going on?!"
The coachman's voice was filled with astonishment and fear. He cracked the whip again, but the horse remained motionless, only pawing restlessly.
This scene made Karel realize something was wrong, and sure enough, a young voice rang out the next second.
"Mr. Karel, please get down yourself."
Upon hearing this voice, Karel calmed down. He took a deep breath, straightened his slightly disheveled bow tie and collar, and tried his best to maintain his last shred of dignity. Then he pushed open the carriage door and slowly stepped down from the carriage.
The afterglow of the setting sun shone on his slightly pale face, reflecting the fleeting despair and feigned composure in his eyes.
Looking at the handsome man and beautiful woman in front of him, Karel smiled bitterly. What did he do to deserve being captured by two S-class mages?
"Mr. Mohn, Ms. Mirajane, what brings you here?"
Karel calmed himself down and tried his best to maintain a gentlemanly demeanor.
"I think you know very well in your heart."
With a smile, Moen stepped forward and casually patted the two stiff horses. A gentle magic instantly released them from their restraints, and the two horses immediately neighed and rode away with the carriage, leaving behind a cloud of dust.
"What...did I do?"
Karel feigned confusion, spreading his hands as if he didn't understand. Then, before Moen and Mirajane could answer, he abruptly changed his tone, his eyes flashing with malice. His lips moved rapidly as he uttered a spell that shared the same origin as the previous "exchange."
"Buzz!"
A visible, pale golden ripple of magic, carrying an ancient and obscure aura, instantly emanated from his mouth, striking directly at Moen and Mirajane!
A surge of magical energy rose, but the ancient Wenpera language magic did not take effect. Instead, it seemed to hit an invisible wall, producing a dull "pop" sound. The magic dissipated like ripples, blocked in front of Moen and Mirajane, and the two did not even flinch.
"How could this be?! When?!"
Karel's composure crumbled instantly, replaced by unbelievable horror. He staggered back a step, staring intently at the invisible barrier in front of the two. He hadn't even seen Moen Mirajane make a move.
"It really is you, Researcher Karel."
Moen smiled and said that when he saw Karel's information, he felt that this guy was very suspicious, and he was right.
"It's reasonable for someone who does archaeological research to be able to use ancient Humphera."
The information on this Karel states that he belongs to the archaeological team of the "Magic Council," and his research focus is probably "Ancient Humberah," which is why he has mastered the Ancient Humberah language.
"That's right, I specialize in studying the ancient Humbert culture."
When Moen revealed his identity, Karel did not deny it. Since Moen had already spoken the ancient Humber language, there was no point in denying it again.
"Why were you laid off? Didn't you submit your work? You certainly didn't contribute nothing, did you?"
Moen asked with some surprise. He was genuinely curious about this. Why did Gran Doma, with its massive layoffs, also lay off some capable people? Or were these people actually considered useless in the Magic Council?
Feeling neglected?
Anyway, Moen found this ancient Humbera language quite interesting. "Word magic" is cast by writing ancient words, but this ancient Humbera language is used by reciting ancient words. This is the real "words become law"!
"It's all because of Fairy Tail!"
Karel's face instantly turned ashen, suppressed rage burst forth from his eyes, and his voice suddenly rose, filled with resentment.
He also wanted to submit his findings, but these were not his own research results, but rather the legacy left by his predecessors. They did not produce any new results based on the work of their predecessors.
He admitted that they had indeed wasted a lot of money, but the study of ancient scripts and languages is not something that can be accomplished overnight! How could there be any results without persistence?!
"It's all Fairy Tail's fault! It's all Gran Doma's fault! If it weren't for you, our research team wouldn't have been disbanded!"
Karel was practically roaring, his body trembling slightly with excitement, having lost his last shred of composure.
"You don't seem to have any internal conflicts, but you never look for the problem within yourself! So it's all other people's fault, and you're completely blameless?"
Moen was truly speechless at how Karel had managed to get him into this situation.
Although Moen also agreed with some of Carrel's views, such as the need for patience in archaeological research, ancient writing, and language studies, as these things cannot be deciphered in a short time.
"But the person who laid off your research team was Guran Dorma. Instead of going after him, you're going after us. Don't blame us for fighting back."
Moen shook his head, too lazy to waste any more words with this guy. He moved like lightning, instantly appearing in front of Karel. His right fist was wrapped in a faint purple demonic light, and he threw a punch directly, using the [Illusory Demon Emperor Fist] to control Karel. Karel's eyes instantly became empty and confused.
"Who ordered you to do all this?"
To prevent any further accidents, Moen immediately began the interrogation. His voice carried the oppressive power of mental magic, piercing straight into the depths of Karel's chaotic consciousness.
"No one ordered us to do this; we just wanted revenge."
Karel answered in a flat, monotone voice, like a puppet on a string, which did not surprise Moen.
"How did you put the request form in there?"
Mirajane chimed in, genuinely curious about the matter, since she was certain she hadn't stamped the order form.
"I used magic to become invisible and sneak in to place it at night."
Karel gave a mechanical reply, which made Mirajane look at Moen.
"Let me show you."
Moen frowned slightly and gave the order in a deep voice, wanting to see the invisibility effect for himself.
"it is good."
Karel responded blankly, and then his lips moved again, uttering ancient syllables.
After Karel chanted the incantation, his figure seemed to dissolve into the air, his outline rapidly blurring.
It twisted and eventually disappeared completely, leaving only a slight disturbance to the dust on the ground where he had stood.
Moen and Mirajane stared wide-eyed. They had to concentrate to sense the extremely faint magical remnants in that space and the almost imperceptible aura.
"This...this ancient Humberah magic is quite something."
Moen couldn't help but click his tongue in amazement. It wasn't surprising that the invisibility effect of this ancient Wenpera language magic could fool the crow. Even he could only vaguely sense that someone was in that location at this distance. This invisibility effect was already quite good.
