Chapter 56 I Don't Need You
Chapter 56 I Don't Need You
The rain was heavy and torrential.
A deafening clap of thunder rolled across the sky, enveloping the entire campus in a suffocatingly oppressive atmosphere.
Lu Yuan, Gao Zhe, Cheng Hao, and the three boys following Cheng Hao all had bruises on their faces.
They stood in a disheveled line in the corridor outside Zhang Dabiao's office, head bowed, yet harboring a defiant spirit, quietly awaiting the final outcome.
The homeroom teachers of both classes were urgently summoned back to school from their homes.
Inside the office, several teachers were discussing whether or not to notify both sets of parents, and had not yet made a decision.
Even though the matter had escalated to the disciplinary office, the two groups remained clearly divided, their eyes locked in a tense standoff, each disliking the other.
The tense atmosphere seemed ready to explode at any moment; the slightest misstep could cause the recently quelled conflict to erupt again.
Among this group, Cheng Hao was the most disheveled and had the most serious injuries.
At first, Lu Yuan pinned him to the ground and his fists fell mercilessly. Cheng Hao was only able to pull Lu Yuan away by having three companions with him.
Fortunately, Gao Zhe arrived in time and joined the melee without hesitation.
Despite being outnumbered two to four, Lu Yuan and Gao Zhe, with their tall, strong physiques and agile skills, held their own against the odds.
At this moment, in the office, Zhang Dabiao, the director of teaching affairs, was discussing this matter with two homeroom teachers with serious expressions.
The atmosphere inside the room was heavy, and anyone could tell that Zhang Dabiao was very unhappy.
The school is a key high school. It is shocking that senior students were involved in a brawl in public outside the school. The conflict was even between students from the same school. If this gets out, the school's excellent academic atmosphere, which has been built up over the years, will collapse.
Lu Yuan's homeroom teacher, Wang Zhishu, was always mild-mannered and thought it was not surprising that young people were impulsive and got into arguments or even fights.
There's no need to make a big fuss. Just give them a good talking-to and make them realize their mistake.
Cheng Hao's homeroom teacher, a young female teacher, had a completely different attitude, showing no intention of downplaying the issue.
Firstly, she felt utterly humiliated that four boys from her class were fighting two against one without gaining any advantage.
Secondly, after learning the whole story, she was even more displeased and spoke coldly to the people in the room:
"Ye Yixian has a history of petty theft. She stole fifty yuan from Cheng Hao. Although the amount wasn't large, the principle of 'don't do evil just because it's small' is self-evident. She stole the money, that's a fact. Now she's even teamed up with others to beat someone up. This is simply unacceptable!"
Her voice wasn't deliberately lowered; it came out clearly from the office, every word reaching the ears of everyone in the corridor.
In the empty corridor, besides six boys with different expressions, there were two girls standing opposite them, namely Ye Yixian and Wang Qingyu.
Neither of them laid a hand on each other, so they shouldn't be punished.
Wang Qingyu's grades were average, but she always behaved herself and never caused any trouble.
Having witnessed such a fierce fight for the first time in his life, and hearing the sharp accusations in the office, he was already pale with fright, his whole body trembling slightly, his lips tightly pressed together, not daring to say a word.
Ye Yixian stood there, listening to that indiscriminate conclusion, feeling both angry and resentful, but even more so, deeply helpless and aggrieved.
Seeing this, Cheng Hao and his friends became even more smug. One of the boys even brazenly made faces at Ye Yixian, his face full of provocation, showing no remorse whatsoever.
"Behave yourself. If you provoke me again, I won't be polite." Lu Yuan looked up coldly at the most arrogant boy, his tone full of threat.
The boy subconsciously touched his still throbbing lip, and remembering the ruthlessness Lu Yuan had shown when he attacked, he immediately cowered, sullenly pursed his lips, and stopped his small movements.
Just then, the office door opened, and Zhang Dabiao, the director of teaching, walked out with two homeroom teachers, their faces grave.
Zhang Dabiao's gaze swept over every student with injuries, finally settling on Lu Yuan, his face turning grim:
"All of you will receive a demerit. Go back and write a 1,000-word self-criticism. At the school assembly next Monday, you will all go on stage to give your self-criticisms publicly."
"Director, we were beaten so badly, they should be the only ones punished!" Cheng Hao immediately covered his swollen face, feigning grievance and trying to gain sympathy.
"Write two thousand words," Zhang Dabiao said irritably, his brows furrowed.
"Huh? No, Director, I..." Cheng Hao was stunned and hurriedly tried to explain.
"Say one more word, and it'll be three thousand words straight." Zhang Dabiao's anger intensified, and he interrupted him sharply.
Cheng Hao fell silent, no longer daring to say another word, and lowered his head with a face full of pent-up frustration.
"What about the other two?" Cheng Hao's homeroom teacher was dissatisfied with the outcome, pointing at Ye Yixian and Wang Qingyu with a tone full of discontent.
"I didn't do anything! I just stood there the whole time and didn't participate at all!"
Wang Qingyu's eyes reddened, feeling wronged. She had been so frightened by the chaos just now that she was too scared to get involved.
Ye Yixian remained silent, her eyes bloodshot, staring intently at Cheng Hao's homeroom teacher, her heart filled with surging hatred.
She would never forget that it was this teacher who, without any investigation or questioning, hastily concluded that she was a thief based solely on Cheng Hao's one-sided account, labeling her with a tag that she could never remove for the rest of her life.
"What happened to them?" Zhang Dabiao frowned, his tone impatient. "The two girls weren't fighting. Besides, what kind of behavior is it for several boys in your class to point at and provoke the girls like that!"
"But she really did steal the money!" Upon seeing this, Cheng Hao immediately stood up to refute, trying to shift the blame to Ye Yixian.
"Has she stolen it yet?" Zhang Dabiao asked sharply.
"No...no, that's not true." Cheng Hao was speechless for a moment, and lowered his head, unable to say anything more.
Just when everyone thought things had calmed down for the time being, Ye Yixian suddenly made a move.
She strode forward, grabbed Cheng Hao by the collar, and pulled a bamboo skewer from her pocket. Pressing the sharp end against his throat, her eyes bloodshot, she roared hoarsely, "You bastard! When did I ever steal your money? If you dare spout any more nonsense, I'll kill you today!"
This sudden scene stunned everyone present.
Lu Yuan reacted the fastest, rushing over almost instantly, grabbing Ye Yixian's waist from behind, and pulling her back forcefully.
"Let me go! I'm going to kill him! Let me go!" Ye Yixian completely lost control, tears streaming down her face, struggling desperately, her whole body trembling, determined to pounce on Cheng Hao and fight him to the death.
"Don't be impulsive, don't do this. It's not worth it for someone like that, really not worth it!"
Lu Yuan held her tightly, using all his strength to prevent her from breaking free. His other hand also gripped her wrist holding the bamboo skewer, fearing that she might do something irreversible in a moment of impulse.
Gao Zhe reacted quickly, stepped forward, snatched the bamboo stick from Ye Yixian's hand, and averted the danger.
"Look! She's completely insane! This kind of student is a social menace!" Cheng Hao's homeroom teacher exclaimed in shock, backing away while frantically pulling out his phone. "We have to call the police! The school can't control her anymore; if we keep her around, something terrible will happen sooner or later!"
"You're no better than me! What right do you have to be a teacher!" Ye Yixian, tears streaming down her face, turned and pointed a deadly finger at Cheng Hao's homeroom teacher, roaring in despair, "Just because they said a few random things, you judged me to be a thief without even asking questions! Do you deserve to be a teacher?!"
"Ha, your father is still in jail. Like father, like daughter. How can you be any better? You can't change your bad nature!"
Cheng Hao's homeroom teacher was also enraged and rebuked him harshly without restraint. Every word was like a sharp knife, piercing Ye Yixian's heart.
These words ignited all of Ye Yixian's despair and rage. She twisted her body frantically, trying with all her might to break free from Lu Yuan's embrace, her eyes filled only with the obsession of revenge.
"Let me go! I'm going to kill them! I'll make them pay!"
Seeing that Lu Yuan still wouldn't let go, Ye Yixian suddenly lowered her head and bit his arm.
"hiss--"
A sharp pain shot through him, causing Lu Yuan's face to contort and cold sweat to bead on his forehead. Yet, instead of loosening his grip on Ye Yixian, he held her even tighter.
He knew in his heart that if he let go today, Ye Yixian would make a big mistake in a moment of impulse, and her life would be completely ruined.
"Enough! Stop making a scene!"
Seeing the chaotic scene before him, Zhang Dabiao, the head of the teaching department, finally lost his temper and shouted angrily to stop it.
His commanding presence, honed over years of managing students, was immense, and this roar quelled the chaos on the scene.
Ye Yixian gradually stopped struggling, leaning weakly against Lu Yuan's chest, and burst into tears, which soaked his clothes.
"You lot, get out of here right now! Stop making a fool of yourselves!" Zhang Dabiao pointed at Cheng Hao and his group, shouting sternly.
The group dared not linger any longer, and they turned and ran away without looking back.
Then, Zhang Dabiao's gaze fell on Lu Yuan and the still-distraught Ye Yixian, his brows furrowed.
Lu Yuan quickly composed himself and said softly, "Director, let me take her away from the school first. Her current condition is really not suitable for her to stay at the school."
"Can you handle this? Don't let anything else go wrong." Zhang Dabiao looked at Ye Yixian's distraught appearance, his face full of hesitation.
"I can do it, you can trust me, nothing will happen again." Lu Yuan nodded firmly with a determined look in his eyes.
Zhang Dabiao looked at Ye Yixian, who was sobbing uncontrollably in his arms, and waved his hand helplessly, tacitly allowing them to leave.
But as soon as Lu Yuan let go, Ye Yixian pushed him away forcefully, as well as Gao Zhe who tried to help her up. He turned around and rushed into the torrential rain without regard for anything else.
"I'll go after her!" Lu Yuan didn't have time to think, and rushed into the rain without hesitation to chase after her.
The rain showed no signs of letting up; on the contrary, it grew heavier, with large raindrops pounding painfully against the skin.
On the roads inside and outside the campus, there were hardly any pedestrians to be seen, only the cold rain relentlessly washing over the earth.
Ye Yixian ran out of the school in a daze, running wildly through the empty streets. The cold rain soaked her hair and clothes, which clung tightly to her body. Tears mixed with the rain, streaming down her cheeks, making it impossible to distinguish between rain and tears.
All she wanted to do was escape, to flee this world that was so malicious and unfair to her.
She ran aimlessly, without direction or destination, wanting only to keep running and get away from all the smears and harm.
Finally, when she reached a secluded and deserted alley, she slipped and fell into the muddy puddles, looking extremely disheveled.
The pent-up grievances, anger, and despair finally erupted at this moment. She cried loudly in the muddy water, desperately slapping the puddles in front of her with her hands, creating huge splashes.
He vented his years of bitterness and resentment in this crazy way.
Just as she was descending into madness and near collapse, a warm and strong hand grasped her icy wrist.
Ye Yixian struggled to lift her head, and through her blurred vision of tears and rain, she gradually recognized the person in front of her as Lu Yuan.
Lu Yuan squatted down in front of her, raindrops dripping from his hair. Looking at her disheveled state in the mud, his eyes were full of pity, but his tone was unusually calm and gentle as he reassured her, "It's alright, I'm here, everything will be alright."
Ye Yixian's crying gradually stopped, and she stared blankly at Lu Yuan in front of her.
After a moment of silence, she suddenly broke free from his hand, shrank back, and sobbed desperately, saying, word by word, "Don't worry about me anymore, I really... don't need you."
