Chapter 22: Just Kidding
Chapter 22: Just Kidding
The distance was far too ambiguous, and Lin Rusi's heart pounded.
She pinched the tender flesh in her palm, and a series of piercing pains shot through her.
However, the pain did not allow her to remain calm.
Li Jingyang possesses an alluring charm in both his appearance and his eyes; one might easily become captivated by his dark, abyss-like gaze.
In her past life, Lin Rusi would have already been unable to resist kissing him.
Fortunately, she had seen a lot of the world and wouldn't be easily fooled by a pretty face.
"Your Highness, what are you saying?"
Lin Rusi blinked, frowned, and put on a frightened yet shy expression.
King Jinglie narrowed his eyes, his gaze penetrating.
Lin Rusi's face visibly flushed red, while Li Jingyang stared intently at her, as if trying to see through her thoughts.
Lin Rusi pursed her lips, clenched her fists, straightened her body, and kept leaning back to create distance between herself and Li Jingyang.
He stared at her for a while, then a burst of laughter interrupted Lin Rusi's thoughts.
King Jinglie laughed heartily, "I was just asking you if you like my appearance, you don't need to be so nervous."
Lin Rusi lowered her eyes, feigning shyness, her cheeks and the roots of her ears burning even redder, as if she wanted to pinch them until they bled.
She bit her lower lip and said in a muffled voice, "How can you just casually say words like 'I like'?"
"Furthermore, the prince possesses an exquisitely beautiful face; how could anyone not..."
She glanced at Li Jingyang quickly out of the corner of her eye, her voice becoming soft and barely audible.
Prince Jinglie looked at Lin Rusi with great interest. "You really can't just say you like someone."
He kept staring at Lin Rusi, which made Lin Rusi's heart tighten slightly.
She coughed lightly, slightly embarrassed, then lowered her head even further.
Lin Rusi dared not reveal her passionate and arrogant side, firstly because it would scare people, and secondly because she didn't like that side of herself.
I suffered so much because of my arrogant and domineering personality in my past life, I'm determined to change my bad habits in this life no matter what.
Just as Lin Rusi was preparing herself mentally, Prince Jinglie suddenly leaned close to her ear.
The scalding breath brushed past her ear like a feather.
Lin Rusi opened her eyes wide, feeling as if her skin had been electrocuted by the breath, a kind of indescribable tingling sensation.
In the past, she would have taken the opportunity to flirt with the other person.
But not now!
Lin Rusi, like a cat with its fur standing on end, quickly jumped away from Prince Jinglie.
Then, in a panic, she covered her mouth, her eyes widening as big as walnuts.
"Your Highness, what are you doing?"
"We're not married yet, Your Highness, isn't it inappropriate for you to be getting so close all of a sudden..."
Seeing Lin Rusi's face turn bright red, King Jinglie found it amusing.
Lin Rusi appeared very nervous, as if she knew nothing about matters between men and women.
But she always handled things perfectly, which made people wonder if she was pretending to be ignorant.
Meeting Lin Rusi's frightened gaze, King Jinglie blew on his fingertip, "There was a little bug behind your ear just now."
"I was worried that I would frighten you, so I took the liberty of removing it."
Lin Rusi secretly grumbled to herself.
That's nonsense. She would sense the insects immediately.
King Jinglie clearly wanted to see her panicked; he was truly cunning.
Despite thinking this in her heart, Lin Rusi maintained an innocent and harmless appearance on her face.
She fidgeted with her ears a couple of times, lowered her head, and whispered, "Thank you, Your Highness."
"Tsk, Lin Rusi, I'm very curious about something now."
She blinked, looking at him with a puzzled expression.
The King of Jinglie looked at her with a more meaningful and speculative gaze.
"What exactly is the difference between the Miss Lin I saw and the real Miss Lin?"
King Jinglie's words made Lin Rusi's heart pound.
She wasn't shy, she was nervous.
She handled all of Jinglie Wang's performances with composure and grace, how was she able to see through it?
Could it be that my acting skills weren't good enough, and that Prince Jinglie saw through my disguise?
Lin Rusi began to have wild thoughts uncontrollably, and then King Jinglie threw out his second question.
"I wonder if Miss Lin had a favorite man before?"
Lin Rusi answered truthfully, "My daughter used to like the Third Prince."
"Oh?"
Why don't you like it now?
When their eyes met, Lin Rusi once again managed to keep her face from burning red.
She answered timidly, "It was I who discovered the Third Prince's true colors and forced myself to stop liking him."
"Secondly, my daughter is already engaged to the prince, how could she possibly harbor feelings for anyone else?"
King Jinglie nodded thoughtfully.
Seeing that King Jinglie did not ask any further questions, Lin Rusi felt a little relieved.
What exactly does this King Jinglie want to do?
He teased her one minute and asked her questions the next.
Lin Rusi even doubted whether King Jinglie was truly saddened by her words.
"Miss Lin, you and I will be getting married soon."
"After we get married, we are husband and wife, and husband and wife should be honest with each other."
Prince Jinglie looked at Lin Rusi with a half-smile, "Has Miss Lin been honest with me?"
Lin Rusi nodded like a chick pecking at rice, "Every word my daughter said to Your Highness is true."
"is it?"
King Jinglie narrowed his eyes, having already seen through Lin Rusi's clumsy acting skills.
From the moment she met him, Lin Rusi began to act.
And now he can still say such things with such shamelessness.
He was becoming increasingly curious about what Lin Rusi's true nature was like.
Is it the delicate appearance she's currently displaying, or her sharp tongue and arrogant demeanor?
Lin Rusi noticed that Prince Jinglie was staring at her, and decided that she could no longer remain passive.
She covered her flushed face, lowered her eyes, and asked in a soft voice, "Why does Your Highness keep staring at me?"
She glanced quickly at Prince Jinglie out of the corner of her eye and asked with difficulty, "Is there something dirty on my daughter's face?"
King Jinglie understood Lin Rusi's intention, smiled slightly, and then looked away.
"I am simply curious about a few things."
"Has Your Highness found the answer?"
Prince Jinglie glanced at Lin Rusi, and although it was just a fleeting glance, his gaze was truly unforgettable.
"found it."
Lin Rusi guessed that he might have figured something out, but she still pretended not to know anything and blinked.
Just as she was thinking about how to deal with Prince Jinglie, he suddenly burst into laughter.
Lin Rusi frowned.
King Jinglie laughed so hard he almost fell over. "Alright, alright, I'm not teasing you anymore."
Lin Rusi frowned and stared intently at Prince Jinglie.
He rested his chin on his hand and looked at Lin Rusi with a smile, "I've been teasing you from the very beginning, so please don't take it to heart."
