Chapter 48: An Absurd Lodging Experience
After Liu Yu and the others left the market, it gradually got dark.
"Oh dear, it's getting dark soon, we need to find a place to stay quickly," Liu Yu said, rubbing her rumbling stomach.
Everyone nodded and quickened their pace.
A short while later, they saw an inn with its signboard swaying in the wind, as if it might fall down at any moment.
Liu Yu stepped forward and knocked on the door, "Is anyone home? We need to check in!"
After a while, the door creaked open, and a sleepy-eyed waiter came out.
"Gentlemen, would you like a meal or a room at the inn?" the waiter asked, yawning.
Liu Yu said, "Please give us a few clean, superior rooms."
The waiter scratched his head. "There are no more main rooms left. There's only a woodshed and a room full of miscellaneous items."
Liu Yu frowned. "How can this be? There are so many of us."
Xiaoqing said from the side, "Brother-in-law, it's good enough to have a place to sleep. It's better than sleeping on the street."
Left with no other choice, they had to take the two rooms.
Liu Yu and Xu Xian were assigned to the woodshed, while Bai Suzhen and Xiaoqing went to the storeroom.
Stepping into the woodshed, a pungent smell hits you, and the ground is covered with firewood and dust.
Liu Yu complained, "What a lousy place this is! Is it even habitable?"
Xu Xian said with a bitter face, "Just make do with this."
They had just tidied up the firewood on the ground and were about to lie down when suddenly a mouse scurried past Liu Yu's feet.
"Oh my god!" Liu Yu jumped up in fright. "There are rats here!"
Xu Xian was so frightened that he hid in a corner, crying out, "What should we do? What should we do?"
Liu Yu picked up a wooden stick and said, "Watch me chase this rat away."
He chased the mouse all over the house, but accidentally bumped into a woodpile, which collapsed and buried him inside.
"Help!" Liu Yu shouted from the woodpile.
Xu Xian had a great deal of effort to pull him out. At this time, Liu Yu was covered in soot and looked like he had just come out of a coal mine.
"What bad luck I've had!" Liu Yu was on the verge of tears.
Meanwhile, things weren't peaceful in Bai Suzhen and Xiaoqing's storage room either.
Xiaoqing had just sat down when she felt something prick her butt. "Ouch!"
She jumped up and looked, and found it was a rusty nail.
Bai Suzhen quickly checked her over, "Are you alright?"
Xiaoqing rubbed her bottom and said, "Sister, this place is terrifying."
At this moment, the sound of dripping water could be heard from the roof, and soon a puddle of water accumulated on the ground.
"How am I supposed to sleep like this?" Xiaoqing complained.
Just as they were worrying, they suddenly heard a commotion coming from the woodshed.
It turned out that Liu Yu and Xu Xian got into a fight over a slightly cleaner spot to sleep.
Bai Suzhen and Xiaoqing quickly went over to mediate the fight.
"You two, stop arguing. What time is it?" Bai Suzhen said.
Liu Yu and Xu Xian then stopped fighting and glared at each other.
After finally calming down, everyone prepared to go to sleep.
Liu Yu had just closed her eyes when she heard a strange sound coming from outside, like someone crying.
He sat up in fright. "Listen, what's that sound?"
Xu Xian huddled under the covers, saying, "Never mind, never mind, maybe it's just the wind."
But the sound grew louder and louder, and Liu Yu couldn't bear it any longer. "I'll go out and take a look."
He carefully opened the door and peeked out.
A woman dressed in white stood in the courtyard, her hair covering her face, muttering something under her breath.
"A ghost!" Liu Yu shouted, ran back into the house, and closed the door.
The others were also quite frightened by him.
Xiaoqing said, "Brother-in-law, don't scare people."
Liu Yu gasped for breath, "It's true, I really saw it."
Just then, there was a knock on the door.
"Who?" Liu Yu asked, trembling.
"It's me, waiter."
Liu Yu opened the door, and the waiter stood at the door, smiling and saying, "Sir, I'm sorry, my cousin was practicing her opera in the courtyard just now, she scared you."
Upon hearing this, Liu Yu breathed a sigh of relief. "So that's how it is. Your cousin really scared us."
After all this commotion, everyone was exhausted and finally spent an unsettling night in this absurd inn.
The next morning, they hurriedly left the inn and continued their journey.
As they walked, they saw a lively temple fair ahead.
"Why don't we go to the temple fair? Maybe we can find something we like," Liu Yu suggested.
Everyone agreed and entered the temple fair.
The temple fair was bustling with people, and a dazzling array of snacks and trinkets were on display.
Liu Yu's eyes lit up when she saw a sugar figurine stall. "I want a sugar figurine of Sun Wukong."
The stall owner quickly made the sugar figurine and handed it to Liu Yu. Just as Liu Yu was about to take it, a child suddenly rushed over and snatched the sugar figurine away.
"This child, why are you stealing things!" Liu Yu shouted.
The child ran while turning back to make faces, shouting, "Come and chase me!"
Liu Yu chased after him angrily, squeezing through the crowd.
Xu Xian called out from behind, "Liu Yu, stop chasing! Be careful not to get lost."
But Liu Yu wouldn't listen and chased the child for several blocks.
Finally, the child ran into a dead end and stopped.
Liu Yu said smugly, "Let's see where you can run now."
The child suddenly burst into tears, "I just want to eat a sugar figurine, but my family is poor and can't afford it."
Upon hearing this, Liu Yu's heart softened. "Don't cry, don't cry, your brother will buy it for you."
He took the child back to the sugar figurine stall and bought another sugar figurine for the child.
The child stopped crying and smiled, "Thank you, brother."
Liu Yu patted the child's head and said, "You can't steal things anymore."
Just then, the system suddenly spoke, "Host, a new mission has appeared..."
