Chapter 89: The Lively Temple Fair
As Liu Yu and his group entered the village, they found the temple fair teeming with people and a dazzling array of stalls.
There were vendors selling candied hawthorns, masks, and all sorts of trinkets. Liu Yu looked around excitedly, like a child.
They walked up to a stall selling candied hawthorns. Liu Yu stared at the strings of bright red candied hawthorns, her mouth practically watering.
He said to the stall owner, "Boss, give me a skewer of candied hawthorns."
The stall owner smiled and handed him a skewer. Liu Yu took the candied hawthorn and took a bite. It was so sour that his face scrunched up.
He muttered, "This is way too sour!"
Xu Xian and Xiao Qing laughed heartily on the side.
They continued walking and saw a circus troupe performing.
An artist was walking a tightrope high in the air, and the audience below held their breath for him.
Liu Yu shouted from below, "Be careful, don't fall and hit me!"
Everyone rolled their eyes at him.
At that moment, a magician caught their attention.
The artist held a handkerchief, waved it gently, and the handkerchief turned into a dove.
Liu Yu exclaimed in surprise, "This is amazing!"
He ran over to see how the pigeons appeared, but accidentally bumped into the performer's props, making a mess of things.
The artist angrily said, "You brat, what are you doing causing trouble!"
Liu Yu quickly apologized, "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry!"
They quickly left and came to a stall where people could guess lantern riddles.
Liu Yu volunteered, "Let me guess."
The stall owner posed a riddle: "Red fruit hangs on a stick, coated with sugar, tastes delicious. (Guess the food)"
Liu Yu thought for a long time but still couldn't figure it out. Xu Xian prompted from the side, "Is it candied hawthorn?"
Liu Yu slapped his thigh: "That's right, how come I didn't think of that!"
The stall owner smiled and said, "Congratulations, you got it right."
Liu Yu said smugly, "I told you I was smart."
Next, they saw a ring toss game.
Liu Yu insisted on trying, so she bought ten rings, but failed to ring a single one.
He retorted defiantly, "Ten more, please!"
In the end, nothing was gained.
Xiaoqing mocked him, "Brother-in-law, your technique is terrible."
Liu Yu stubbornly replied, "It's just bad luck."
Just then, a child ran over and won a big prize.
Liu Yu awkwardly touched his head.
At this time, opera performances began on the temple fair stage.
Liu Yu couldn't understand and was dozing off.
Xu Xian, however, watched with great interest.
Suddenly, Liu Yu was awakened by the sound of gongs and drums.
It turned out to be a dragon and lion dance troupe.
The lion leaped so lifelike that Liu Yu couldn't help but jump along with it.
He accidentally stepped on the lion's tail, which caused the lion to chase after him.
Liu Yu ran while shouting, "Help!"
Everyone laughed so hard they were doubled over.
Having finally escaped the lion, Liu Yu was panting heavily.
They continued strolling through the temple fair and came across a stall selling stinky tofu.
Liu Yu smelled the odor, pinched her nose, and said, "What is this smell? It stinks!"
Xiaoqing said, "Brother-in-law, you should try it, it's delicious."
Liu Yu took a bite with some skepticism, but was immediately drawn in by its unique flavor.
He said, "Wow, this is really good."
Just as they were enjoying their meal, they suddenly heard someone shout, "Stop thief!"
Liu Yu looked up and saw a thief running away with a wallet in his hand.
Without saying a word, he chased after him.
The thief ran very fast, and Liu Yu chased after him closely.
After running through several streets, Liu Yu finally caught the thief.
He returned the wallet to its owner, who gratefully said, "Thank you, brave man!"
Liu Yu said smugly, "It's a piece of cake!"
After visiting the temple fair, Liu Yu and his group prepared to leave the village.
On the way, Liu Yu was still savoring the lively scene at the temple fair.
He said, "This temple fair is really interesting, I'll come again next time."
Xu Xian and Xiao Qing nodded with smiles.
They continued on their journey, unaware of what interesting things they might encounter next...
