Iris still seemed to be in shock. She didn't understand why such a thing happened at such a nice banquet.
"We've been here many times and this has never happened before."
Elise concluded, "It must have been brought here by one of the guests."
Louisa asked, "Did you hear any gunshots outside during these three days?"
Elise shook her head. "The soundproofing here is very good. I didn't hear any gunshots."
Louisa nodded in understanding, then explained that the helicopter would be evacuating everyone. "...I need to search the other rooms for survivors now, and then I'll take you away."
Elise nodded, a worried look on her face: "You must help me find Sethbin!"
Louisa said, "Yes, ma'am, but before I come back, please change into some casual clothes suitable for walking."
Elise glanced at her silk dress and smiled awkwardly, "I haven't changed clothes for three days. There are only baby supplies here."
Louisa glanced in the direction of the master bedroom.
"The master bedroom is safe now, but there is a body there. I have confirmed that he is dead. You can go to the master bedroom to get some clothes."
Iris was a little surprised: "There's a body in our master bedroom?"
Louisa stared at Elise's face and said calmly, "Yes, it has been confirmed that it is Charles, the head of the biochemical gene research team of the United States, and he was shot to death."
Elise exclaimed, "Charles!?"
Louisa asked, "Do you know him?"
"Of course," Elise said. "He and Seth Bing were classmates and played rugby together. Even after all these years, they're still close friends."
Elise doesn't believe that Seth Pinn shot and killed Charles.
"We invited a total of 175 guests, and they all might have brought guns for self-defense. Anyone could have killed Charles," said Elise.
But it’s impossible that all 175 guests have a grudge against Charles.
Louisa remained noncommittal. Before leaving, she said to Elise, "Anyway, the master bedroom is relatively safe. Come back here as soon as you get what you need, and don't open the door to anyone until I come back."
Elise nodded and watched Louisa push open the door to the corridor and leave.
...
Louisa came to the corridor and stood in front of the window. She saw Nora and Kevin searching the room downstairs across the street.
After making sure they were safe, Louisa went into the room next to the baby's room and began searching.
This is actually a library.
Two walls are lined with towering basswood bookcases, and the ceiling is painted with a hexagram mural.
There are no windows in the house, and the glass wall lamp next to the wall is on. The dim light gives the room a retro filter.
The books on the shelves are neatly arranged, mostly ancient books, hardcover books and manuscripts, with the gold-embossed titles on the spines gleaming in the light.
In order to facilitate access to books that are placed high up, there is a wooden sliding ladder next to the bookshelf, and there is also a spiral staircase on the right leading to the third floor.
Louisa took a quick look around and saw nothing special, so she walked straight to a set of heavy wooden double doors.
I turned the handle, but it didn't budge; it was locked from the inside.
Louisa knocked on the door, but there was no response.
Louisa had no choice but to turn and walk out of the library, intending to enter the room through the door in the corridor.
Most of the rooms in the castle are interconnected, and each room has at least two doors.
Louisa quickly opened the door from the corridor. The space inside was even more spacious than the library just now. It was Seth Bin's study.
Opposite the corridor door is a black fireplace with a mantel and frame inlaid with copper decorations and engraved with vine patterns.
On the mantelpiece were golden candlesticks and a crystal vase. The vase had once held bright roses, but now they looked wilted.
Next to the fireplace, there is a one-meter-high wooden clock that looks like a real antique.
A golden shield hangs on the wall above. The pattern carved on the shield seems to be the family coat of arms, and the classical wall lamps on both sides illuminate the shield, reflecting rich light.
On the right is a set of classical sofas, and behind the furniture is the locked door.
On the left was a spacious and heavy wooden desk covered with a dark green leather mat and a copper desk lamp.
Behind the desk is a ceiling-high bookcase made of the same material as the library, which contains many business books.
Although it is Seth Bin's study, this property is just a place for him to stay on vacation, and he probably doesn't store important documents here.
Despite this thought, Louisa searched the desk drawers as usual.
In the first drawer, Louisa found a pistol.
This is the MK25 pistol, the most commonly used pistol by the Navy SEALs in the US special forces.
This pistol is famous for its design accuracy and its predecessor is the Swiss-made SIG Sauer SIG P226.
It is difficult to buy it on the market, but as the world's richest man, Seth Bin has close contacts with government officials, so it is not surprising that he has an MK25.
Louisa removed the magazine, which contained ten rounds.
Louisa kept the pistol for herself without hesitation and put it in the holster at her waist.
Later, Louisa found a list of party attendees in the drawer.
After taking a quick glance, Louisa frowned unconsciously.
Because Charles' name was not on the list.
But Elise knew that Charles was invited, so maybe the list was incomplete, or a few names were added later.
Louisa folded the list and put it in her pocket, then flipped through the notebook underneath.
The notebook is new and there is not a single word written in it.
After searching through all the desk drawers, only that list was of any use.
Louisa was about to leave when her eyes fell on the fireplace again.
Louisa had seen the structure of the house and remembered that this should be the outer wall and there was no chimney.
While some designs use the fireplace as a simple decorative feature, in other rooms it will serve as a window.
There is also a floor-to-ceiling window in the study, so the lighting should be better.
Louisa walked into the fireplace, reached out and touched it, and found that there was indeed a wooden board on the top inside.
I knocked it and it was solid.
Louisa's eyes moved upwards and fell on the shield again.
Seeing nothing unusual, Louisa left.
There were no people or zombies in the remaining rooms, and there were no signs of use. They were just a few exquisitely decorated bedrooms.
After confirming that no one had slipped through the net, Louisa returned to the nursery.
Elise had changed into casual clothes and was relieved to see Louisa come back, but she was also worried that Sethbin might be in a more dangerous place.
Louisa watched her pick up the sleeping baby and warned her quietly, "Watch her carefully. Her crying will attract the attention of the zombies."
