Chapter 31 The amulet worked.
Chapter 31 The amulet worked.
The night is as cold as water.
Zhai Rongyu leaned against the corridor, her eyes half-closed. A few faint blush crept onto her fair face, and her breathing gradually became heavier.
This drug is really potent.
She stretched out her right hand and quickly pressed several acupoints on her body. Then she bent down and rummaged through the cloth bag at her waist, found a pill, and swallowed it.
Every banquet is bound to have its share of trouble.
Fortunately, I was prepared and had refined several antidote pills in advance.
[Or maybe that brat Wen Yin will ambush us.]
She sat quietly.
The elixir quickly took effect, dispelling the evil fire in the dantian.
Zhai Rongyu opened her eyes, got up and walked towards the Zhaohe Hall.
I hadn't taken more than two steps when I felt a chill creep up my back.
She looked back and saw only a few lanterns swaying slightly in the pitch-black night.
Nothing unusual.
She took a deep breath, turned around, and continued walking forward.
A chill swept over her again, and Zhai Rongyu felt as if a gust of wind had swept across her neck. Her eyes flickered, her body went limp, and she collapsed to the ground.
The man in black standing behind her held up a knife, looking bewildered.
Did he just... get hit...?
Could it be due to the effects of the medication?
Forget it!
Completing the mission is the priority!
He hoisted Zhai Rongyu onto his back and flew toward a palace.
In the darkness, Zhai Rongyu opened her eyes, glanced at her stomach which was being pressed against the shoulder of the man in black, and felt a pang of sorrow.
I should have known better than to eat so much.
Yue... this position made her feel like throwing up...
Doesn't she deserve a princess carry?
Whoops!
Suddenly, her gaze met that of the lone figure that had followed her.
She blinked.
A sly smile flashed in his dark almond-shaped eyes.
She gently pressed her index finger to her cherry lips, made a "shh" gesture, and then pointed at the oblivious man in black.
The lone figure nearly fell from the sky.
My lord is overthinking it...
This Miss Zhai doesn't look like she needs to be rescued at all.
He stopped and looked at the man in black's retreating figure with some sympathy.
Brother, may you rest in peace...
He then lightly touched the ground with his toes, turned around, and returned to the Showa Hall to report back.
Inside the main hall, Wen Yin was somewhat restless.
She gave Zhai Rongyu a laxative, but for some reason she felt a little panicked... Judging from the way she shook her head just now, it didn't seem like a stomachache, but rather a headache.
Could she have taken the wrong medicine?
What if someone dies from eating it!
But the medicine was given to her by Aunt Qiu Jin herself, how could it be wrong?
She got up and walked out of the main hall.
Seeing this, Zhai Muling was about to follow when the Empress stopped her and started talking.
She looked at the entrance of the main hall with some worry.
Why hasn't Rong'er come back yet?
Wen Yin walked through the corridor, searching for Zhai Rongyu.
"Yin'er".
Wen Yin turned around and saw that the person who came was Consort Shu, with her maid Qiu Jin by her side.
She curtsied and said, "Aunt."
Consort Shu asked, "What are you looking for?"
“It’s that Zhai Rongyu again,” Wen Yin pouted. “I wonder where she’s gone.”
"Don't you have a grudge against her?"
"Why are you suddenly concerned about whether she lives or dies?"
"Who cares about her!"
Wen Yin's eyes flickered, a little guilty.
"I just wanted to teach her a lesson, I never intended to kill her."
Suddenly, as if remembering something, she suppressed her unease and asked, "Aunt, what kind of medicine did you give me?"
"Don't worry, no one will die."
Consort Shu lowered her head and smiled, gently toying with the flower she had just picked. "Don't you trust your aunt?"
"Of course I trust my aunt." Wen Yin breathed a sigh of relief; as long as it didn't kill anyone.
"Aunt, I'll head back now."
Zhai Rongyu must be squatting in the outhouse.
The thought of her looking utterly bewildered filled Wen Yin with delight.
After this incident, she should learn her lesson and realize that she is not someone to be trifled with!
"Go."
Consort Shu watched Wen Yin's retreating figure until she was out of sight, then asked softly, "How did things go?"
Qiu Jin replied, "Your Majesty, rest assured, the person has been captured, and Young Master Wen has been notified to go over there."
Consort Shu nodded.
"This servant still doesn't understand. Why doesn't Your Majesty just give her the position of Sixth Princess Consort? Why go to all this trouble?"
Consort Shu said calmly, "With her temperament, how could she be worthy of being the mother of a nation?"
Her Qing'er has great ambitions.
She stared at the delicate flower in her hand, her gentle gaze suddenly turning sharp.
This Zhai Rongyu is no pushover.
Since the position of Sixth Prince's Consort cannot be given to her, then he will have someone from his maternal family marry her. Keeping her under his watchful eye will prevent her from causing any trouble, and it will be easier to control her.
If she knows what's good for her and obediently submits to Xuan'er, then it's fine;
If she fails to recognize the situation and insists on becoming an obstacle, then don't blame her for being ruthless.
She narrowed her eyes and snapped the flower in her hand with her red nail polish.

Showa Palace.
When Zhai Muling saw Wen Yin return with a smile on her face, she felt increasingly uneasy.
She brushed off the Empress, deliberately spilling the wine in her cup on herself, and then hurriedly walked out of the palace, claiming she needed to change her clothes.
I hope nothing bad happens to Rong'er.
She plunged headlong into the night.
After circling around several times, they still couldn't find Zhai Rongyu.
Until we passed a rockery, we saw what appeared to be a figure on the opposite shore of the lake.
A surge of joy filled her heart. She lifted her skirt and stepped onto the bridge, running towards the other side, calling out, "Rong'er!"
But just as she reached the middle of the bridge, a huge force pushed her from behind, causing Zhai Muling to scream and fall off the bridge.
A huge splash of water rose from the lake, but the noise was drowned out by the lingering sounds of string and bamboo instruments playing.
Just as Zhai Muling was about to call for help, her mouth and nose were choked by lake water.
The icy lake water crashed against Zhai Muling's body, the chill instantly sobering her up.
The hairpin on her head changed color slightly, and a flash of golden light appeared.
Zhai Muling suddenly felt a powerful force surge within her body, which washed away the lake water that had flooded her mouth and nose, forming an invisible aura around her that enveloped her.
She can breathe again.
Zhai Muling found it hard to believe.
Could it be... that Rong'er's amulet worked?
Suddenly, a pair of arms reached out from the water and pulled her into their embrace.
Before she could even see who it was, she was pulled out of the water by a force.
The man led her through the resistance of the lake water, downstream from the bridge, and stopped in the shadows under the bridge.
The two hid inside.
To prevent Zhai Muling from drowning, the man still held her tightly around the waist, trapping her in the lake and locking her in his arms.
Immediately afterwards, another loud thud was heard.
Zhai Muling turned her head and saw the Sixth Prince, Jun Yiqing, raising his head from the water, cursing: "Where is he?!"
The servant on the shore said with a bitter face, "I clearly pushed her in..."
Where did it go...?
Could he have drowned?!
The Sixth Prince stormed ashore and gave him a sharp rap on the head, yelling, "Useless trash!"
"You've completely ruined my chance to be a hero and save the damsel in distress!"
Zhai Muling's expression changed.
It turns out... it was the Sixth Prince who was behind this.
"Shhh."
Zhai Muling turned around in response and then saw that the person who had saved her was a man.
Under the moonlight, a noble and ethereal face came into view.
The moonlight cast shadows on his face, sculpting his straight nose and tightly pursed lips. His eyes, gazing at her, were even softer than the moonlight.
Water droplets rolled down his temples, cascading down his pale skin and into the water, causing ripples in Zhai Muling's heart.
It was clearly our first time meeting, but I felt like I'd seen him somewhere before.
What a strange feeling.
She raised her hand and covered her chest.
Crown Prince Ying Huai looked at her, his eyes filled with joy and possessiveness.
at last……
I finally met her.
In this life, he finally saved her.
