Chapter 746 We're Moving
Chapter 746 We're Moving
"What is a guardian?"
Xiao Yuan hesitated for a moment, then asked.
Now all four adults are watching her. She knows she's been asked a question, but she doesn't know how to answer it and is a little scared.
It feels a bit like being suddenly called on by the teacher to answer a question in class.
“It means your uncle and aunt won’t take care of you anymore,” Sheng Hanyu thought to herself, “Actually, they don’t take care of you now, Xiaoyuan will go live somewhere else.”
He crouched down to speak with Xiaoyuan at almost eye level.
Ye Sanqing glanced at him and decided to let him do as he pleased, since she didn't know the specifics of the situation.
In her opinion, Xiaoyuan is fully capable of supporting her younger siblings, but this would be legally unacceptable.
"Where are we going?" Xiaoyuan asked, glancing at her uncle and aunt.
The fear in her eyes faded, replaced by a faint glimmer of expectation, but mostly confusion.
“We’ll discuss this later, but Xiaoyuan can think about where to go first.” Sheng Hanyu thought that Xiaoyuan might say she would just stay at home, which would be the most normal thing to do.
But it's also the most troublesome, because if they stay here, their uncles and aunts can still contact them under the guise of "taking care" of them, so to outsiders there's no difference at all.
Even if they get Xiaoyuan to give them the money, legally the property doesn't belong to the two adults. But what if they have a way to get Xiaoyuan to give them the money?
This is difficult to explain clearly.
"So, Xiaoyuan doesn't want to be with her uncle and aunt anymore?" Ye Sanqing asked directly, focusing on the key point.
Since she's already thinking about where to go, it means she doesn't want to be here.
“This…” Xiaoyuan looked at them again.
“Xiaoyuan, we’ve taken care of you for a long time…” the woman tried to persuade Xiaoyuan, “Besides, you’re just a child, and you can’t even cook…”
“I can do it. And I can cook!” Xiaoyuan exclaimed upon hearing this, “I can cook better than Auntie! But you won’t let me!”
"This..." The woman glanced at the man again, and the man gave her a look, "You can do whatever you want with the girls, but Xiao Liang is going to take care of us in our old age."
She spoke as if it were a great difficulty, as if she were giving her child away to be raised by someone else, but she also seemed to feel a sense of relief.
Perhaps because the money hadn't actually ended up in the woman's hands, she didn't really feel the weight of the money going out, while the man was the one frowning, looking like he was in real pain.
“Yes, Xiao Liang is a boy. We… don’t laugh at us,” the man said through gritted teeth, “we adopted and took care of them because we thought we could have a son to rely on in our old age.”
"Heh." Ye Sanqing scoffed at this.
"What does Xiaoyuan think?" Sheng Hanyu simply ignored it. They had no obligation to educate others on this point; it mainly depended on Xiaoyuan's opinion.
“Of course I want to be with my younger siblings,” Xiaoyuan said earnestly. “My parents said that I should take care of them.”
Actually, if we only consider the outcome, leaving with the younger sisters might be the best choice for Xiaoyuan, because Xiaoliang is indeed the youngest, which means he really needs a lot of care.
This way, Xiaoyuan's burden will be less, and at least her uncle and aunt seem unlikely to mistreat Xiaoliang.
But you can't calculate it that way; people always have feelings.
"That's settled then. The person handling the paperwork will arrive tomorrow," Sheng Hanyu said, straightening up.
His tone was as if to say, "Throw away the trash tomorrow," and both of them were taken aback.
"No, Xiao Liang..." the man tried to argue.
Sheng Hanyu dismissed his words with a single look, "You don't want to be sued, believe me."
“Never mind…” the woman tugged at the man’s sleeve, “I told you we’d have the baby ourselves…”
"Let's go, Xiaoyuan, let's go to your house," Sheng Hanyu said to Xiaoyuan, ignoring them.
"Um……!"
As they stepped outside, they heard a man's scolding voice coming from the courtyard, "It's all your fault! If you had given birth to a son, this wouldn't have happened! You're seventy or eighty years old and still trying to have children yourself, what are you doing!"
"We need to find someone to keep an eye on them here," Ye Sanqing whispered to Sheng Hanyu.
She had a feeling that something was off about how this was going to happen; there might be a plot involving finding someone else to be reborn next.
"I know," Sheng Hanyu nodded. "But it's not very convenient here. Could you arrange for someone to check on it regularly?"
"Arrange it however is convenient." After saying that, Ye Sanqing looked at Xiaoyuan, "Xiaoyuan, why are you crying?"
"I don't know, I just want to cry." Xiaoyuan didn't cry out loud, but two streams of tears kept flowing down her face.
It's understandable. She's experiencing a lot of complicated emotions right now, and she may not know what to do next. But instinctively, she doesn't want to live with those two people, so she's probably mostly happy.
"Here, wipe it off." Sheng Hanyu simply handed the whole pack of tissues to Xiaoyuan.
"I don't understand. Does that mean I won't live with my uncle and aunt anymore?" Xiaoyuan wiped her face, sniffed, and then asked.
"Hmm. Xiaoyuan, are your younger brother and sister asleep now?" Ye Sanqing asked. "If they're not asleep, let's go to our place together. We can pack our things tomorrow morning."
"He probably didn't sleep."
They returned to Xiaoyuan's house, and Xiaoyuan pushed open the door and went inside.
Ye Sanqing noticed that this courtyard could hardly be called a courtyard anymore; it was extremely dilapidated, with only a simple fence that could at most keep out other people's chickens and ducks.
However, with the help of the phone's flashlight, it was clear that the yard was kept fairly tidy.
"Sister?" Xiaoyuan's younger sister heard the noise and opened the door a crack, then opened it completely after a while.
Ye Sanqing glanced at the little girl in the moonlight. She looked quite similar to Xiao Yuan, and they seemed to be about the same age.
She's probably only a year or two younger, and she eats more than Xiaoyuan... Even rice with pickled vegetables is still rice, which makes them look almost the same age.
"Fangfang," Xiaoyuan nodded, "Are they all asleep? We're moving, can you wake them up?"
"Moving?" Fangfang didn't understand what she meant and looked at Ye Sanqing and the other person. "Will you help us move, older brother and sister?"
"Yes. I'll tell you more tomorrow, for now..."
"Then I'll go call them." Fangfang turned around and went back inside, and Xiaoyuan followed her in.
Not long after, several children came out. Xiao Yuan was half-dragging and half-holding the only boy in her arms, which should be Xiao Liang.
"Sister, where are we going?" Xiao Liang mumbled, clearly still sleepy.
Ye Sanqing had a slight urge to step forward and pick them up, but Sheng Hanyu spoke up first, "Let me carry them. Is anyone else too tired to walk?"
As he spoke, he glanced at the second-to-last little girl.
"I can walk! I'm just so sleepy..." the child said.
"Don't bother, brother..." Xiao Yuan tried to stop him, but Xiao Liang had already looked up and said, "I want brother to hold me!"
"Hmm." Sheng Hanyu picked him up; he was quite light, and she wondered how old he was now.
Logically, he should be around four or five years old, but it's hard to say.
