Chapter 348 Don't let her overthink it
"Yin Shen, has something happened to Tian Tian?" Ruo Lan asked anxiously, gripping Gu Yin Shen's hand.
It's only been two days since they left without saying goodbye.
Gu Yinshen gripped Ruolan's arm tightly in his palm. "Nothing has happened. Don't worry."
"How could I not be worried?" Ruolan countered.
Sweetie has never been able to integrate into this family, which is what gives Ruolan the biggest headache and makes her most anxious.
Now she leaves alone from time to time, her whereabouts unknown, and she is really worried that she will lose her again.
"Yin Shen." Ruolan grabbed Gu Yin Shen's arm with her other hand. "I can't lose Tian Tian again."
“I know,” Gu Yinshen replied. “I have already arranged for people to look for her.”
Upon hearing this, Ruolan became even more certain that Tiantian's current situation was not good.
"Any clues?"
Gu Yinshen shook his head.
The private investigators sent out found no trace of Sweetie; it seemed she disappeared after getting into a taxi.
"No?" Ruolan staggered back a step. "Where could she have gone so late?"
Gu Yinshen reached out and helped Ruolan up. He was at a loss for words to comfort Ruolan about Tiantian.
"Mom~" Mengmeng tugged at Ruolan's hand, which was hanging down by her legs, with a worried look on her face.
Sensing Mengmeng's unease, Ruolan tried to adjust her own state.
"Mengmeng, Mommy is okay."
"Mom, Sister Tiantian will come home safely."
Mengmeng raised her hand and gently took Ruolan's hand.
Feeling the warmth emanating from Mengmeng's palm, Ruolan felt a mix of emotions she couldn't quite describe.
"Alright, let's not think about that for now. Is Mengmeng hungry? Have some of the snacks Mom made first," Gu Yinshen said, changing the subject.
When I got back, I was thinking about snacks, but I couldn't get my hands on any.
Mengmeng looked up and observed Ruolan's expression, then said sensibly, "Mengmeng isn't hungry."
"How could I not be hungry?" Ruolan retorted, then instructed Aunt Ping, "Bring some over."
"Yes, madam." Aunt Xue immediately went into the kitchen.
The desserts were already arranged on plates. After placing them on the dining table, Aunt Xue, seeing the sensible Mengmeng, called out, "Mengmeng, come here quickly!"
Her stomach rumbled twice, but considering that Sweetie hadn't returned yet, Mengmeng didn't want to enjoy the food alone.
"Mengmeng, why aren't you eating?" Gu Yinshen asked with concern.
"Dad, I'll wait for Sister Tian Tian to come back before I eat," Mengmeng said, looking away from the snacks.
Hearing these words, Gu Yinshen felt instantly uncomfortable. He didn't want Mengmeng to keep making herself suffer.
"It's alright, you eat first. I've already saved some for her." Gu Yinshen let go of Ruolan's hand and walked towards Mengmeng. "Come on, Dad will eat with you. Mom worked hard at home this afternoon to prepare this for you. We can't let Mom's efforts go to waste."
Ruolan knew that Gu Yinshen didn't want Mengmeng's mood to be affected by Tiantian. She followed Gu Yinshen's lead and echoed, "Yes, Mommy likes to see Mengmeng eat the snacks Mommy makes."
Hearing their words, Mengmeng was a little suspicious. But Gu Yinshen had already led her to the dining table, and the smell of milk made her even hungrier.
"Are Mom and Dad coming too?" Mengmeng asked cautiously.
After Gu Yinshen carried her to a seat, he pulled out a chair next to Ruolan.
"Together we will."
“That’s great~”
After cheering, Mengmeng realized that since Tiantian was still missing, she couldn't just happily eat her snacks while monopolizing her parents' space.
Her smile faded, and Mengmeng sat on the chair, too embarrassed to reach for the snack.
Seeing that she hadn't quite recovered from her emotions, Gu Yinshen picked up a piece and stuffed it into his mouth, taking a big bite. "Delicious, Mengmeng, you should try some too."
As he finished speaking, Gu Yinshen picked up one of the pieces and placed it in Mengmeng's hand.
Crumbs of pastry lay scattered on the table in front of her. Mengmeng watched Gu Yinshen eat with great satisfaction, then looked down at the pastry, feeling hesitant.
"Why aren't you eating? Do you think it doesn't taste good?" Ruolan asked.
Mengmeng looked up and saw Ruolan shaking her head. "No."
"Then eat this piece," Gu Yinshen said from the side, reaching out to take another piece from the plate.
Seeing that he had eaten two pieces in a row, Mengmeng hesitated before putting the pastry in her hand into her mouth.
Gu Yinshen and Ruolan were both staring at her.
Only when the pastries entered their mouths did Gu Yinshen and Ruolan finally relax.
"Mengmeng, eat when you're hungry, don't worry about other people." Gu Yinshen tried to communicate with Mengmeng.
Mengmeng understood the logic in those words, of course. But she didn't want to take away the enjoyment and care that Tiantian should have had.
She lowered her head and ate the pastry in her hand in small bites.
"Yin Shen, I'll stay here with Meng Meng. You go and handle things with Tian Tian," Ruo Lan suggested.
She's having a very low tolerance for emotional distress because of what happened with Tian Tian. She feels that Gu Yinshen is more rational and better suited to handle the situation.
Gu Yinshen's eyes lit up, and he was pleasantly surprised.
"Okay." He immediately agreed, afraid that Ruolan would go down a dead end again and change her mind once more.
After Gu Yinshen left the table, Ruolan poured Mengmeng a glass of juice.
Looking at the orange juice in the glass, Mengmeng put down the snack in her hand and obediently picked it up and took a sip.
"Mengmeng, did anything pleasant happen at school today?" Ruolan turned to the side, her eyes filled with Mengmeng's expression.
After thinking it over carefully, she said, "Tangtang's dad is getting healthier and healthier. Tangtang said that when Uncle Tang has his competition, he will give us some tickets so we can go and watch him compete."
"Uncle Tang?"
"He's Tangtang's dad. At school, Mengmeng likes Tangtang the most, and Tangtang likes Mengmeng the most too."
Ruolan thought about it carefully before she realized who Mengmeng was talking about.
She stroked her head and asked with a smile, "Then let's go cheer him on together."
"Great!" Mengmeng clapped her hands excitedly. "Uncle Tang said before that if he wins the championship in the competition, he will give the medal to Mengmeng."
"Really? That's an honor he earned through hard work. To be willing to give it away to someone else shows that he really likes our Mengmeng," Ruolan said.
Upon hearing these words, Mengmeng could no longer suppress the smile on her face.
She likes everyone, and naturally hopes that everyone likes her too.
Out of the corner of her eye, Mengmeng noticed the pastries in front of her, and the words Tiantian had said came to mind.
"mom!"
"what happened?"
The sudden call puzzled Ruolan.
Mengmeng pointed to the pastries and said, "Mommy, Tangtang also really likes the pastries you make. Can I invite Tangtang over to our house?"
