Chapter 764 Realizing

Chapter 764 Realizing

He realized that he had initially been driven by desire, wanting to use every available force to accomplish his grand ambitions. But somehow, he had actually fallen in love with that stubborn yet intelligent woman. This feeling, like an unusual warm current, quietly flowed through the depths of his cold heart.

Zhang Hai's gaze fell on the dead ninja. His voice was low and calm, yet carried an undeniable power: "Jingyin, we are doctors, but we are not gods." He spoke slowly, each word striking Jingyin's heart like a heavy hammer. "What we can do is save lives, not bring the dead back to life. You must learn to see through life and death, and accept the end of life, otherwise, your medical career will be very painful."

Jingyin's body trembled slightly. She looked up at Zhang Hai, a hint of confusion flickering in her eyes, but it was quickly replaced by a new understanding. She nodded thoughtfully and softly replied, "Uncle, I understand." Although she still felt reluctant to part, Zhang Hai's words had undoubtedly opened a new door for her.

Seeing that Shizune had taken his words to heart, Zhang Hai said no more. He then asked, "Where did Tsunade go?"

Shizune wiped the sweat from her forehead and replied, "After Teacher returned, she went to the Hokage's place and has been busy at the hospital treating the injured ever since. She should be resting in her room now."

Zhang Hai nodded and said, "In that case, we won't disturb her any longer." He took out a soldier's ration pill from his pocket and handed it to Jingyin, "Eat this first to restore your chakra. Then, we'll go treat the next patient."

Shizune's eyes lit up, and she quickly took the soldier's ration pill and swallowed it. Being able to continue treating patients was undoubtedly the greatest comfort to her. She replied swiftly, "Yes!"

Next, Zhang Hai and Shizune began their seamless collaboration. Shizune, as the medical assistant, performed exceptionally well. She was able to accurately assess injuries, quickly transfer chakra, and perfectly execute every instruction from Zhang Hai. Zhang Hai's medical ninjutsu was like a work of art; every injection of chakra and every press of his hand was perfectly timed.

Apart from the two ninjas who succumbed to their injuries, the remaining patients improved significantly under the combined care of the two. Their lives were saved, and all that remained was long-term rehabilitation. Shizune witnessed Zhang Hai's exquisite medical skills firsthand and was filled with awe. She sincerely believed that in Konoha Village, besides her teacher Tsunade, Uncle Baiyun's medical ninjutsu was probably the best.

After treating several patients, even Zhang Hai felt a bit tired. He casually found a chair, sat down, and stretched. Seeing this, Jingyin considerately poured him a glass of warm water.

Zhang Hai had just taken a couple of sips when a voice, tinged with resentment yet strangely familiar, rang in his ear: "Now that you're back, why didn't you come to find me right away?"

Zhang Hai turned around at the sound of her voice, only to see Tsunade already standing by the door. Her eyes were filled with a complex and intense mix of emotions: joy, resentment, and longing. Although their separation hadn't been long, it had felt like an eternity for Tsunade. For the past few days, she had been frantically treating patients to numb herself, trying to suppress her longing and worry for Zhang Hai. Now, seeing him safe and sound before her, her long-suppressed emotions finally erupted like a flood.

Zhang Hai sensed the intense emotion in Tsunade's eyes and felt a pang of guilt. He immediately put on a fawning smile and explained, "Lady Tsunade, I was just afraid of disturbing you. I heard from Shizune that you've been treating patients, so I..." He paused, his tone becoming even gentler, "I just heard from Shizune that you've just been resting, and I didn't want to bother you."

Upon hearing this answer, Tsunade's resentment dissipated considerably, replaced by a sense of satisfaction. She looked at Zhang Hai, the complex emotions in her eyes gradually giving way to deep affection. The two gazed at each other, and the atmosphere in the room instantly became unusually ambiguous, as if a sweet, cloying scent filled the air.

Caught between the two, even the slow-witted Jingyin finally understood. She felt her cheeks burning, like a bright, out-of-place light bulb in the room. She inwardly groaned, convinced something must have happened between them, and desperately wished she could disappear immediately.

Fortunately, Zhang Hai noticed Jingyin's awkward situation in time. He casually said, "Jingyin, sort out the patients you just treated. A few of them will need another round of special treatment tomorrow."

For Jingyin, these words were like heavenly music, instantly rescuing her from her awkward situation. She jumped to her feet, as if granted a reprieve, and loudly replied, "Okay! I'll go right now!"

Shizune dashed out of the room at an unprecedented speed, as if a ferocious beast were chasing her. As she left, she made sure to gently close the door behind her, leaving the two of them with a completely private space.

Just as he stepped out of the hospital, he bumped into Kushina and Minato. Kushina immediately noticed Zhang Hai's weak appearance and loudly mocked, "Oh, isn't this Lord Zhang Hai? What happened to you coming out of the hospital? You look like you've been robbed; you can't even straighten your back!"

Seeing this, Minato couldn't help but show a worried expression: "Senior Zhang Hai, are you alright? Did something happen again in the Land of Craftsmen? Or were you injured during the mission?"

Zhang Hai gave a forced smile and coldly replied, "I'm fine." His voice was hoarse, and something definitely wasn't right.

Kushina, unconvinced, stepped forward and slapped Zhang Hai hard on the back with a dull thud. She teased, "Oh dear, Lord Zhang Hai, are you really sick? If you're sick, you need treatment! How about I ask Lady Tsunade to take a look at you? She's a medical ninja!"

"Ugh!" Zhang Hai stumbled, almost losing his balance, from the impact of her slap. He glared at Kushina, annoyed, and complained to Minato, "Minato Namikaze, can't you control this violent maniac in your family?"

Upon hearing this, Kushina and Minato's cheeks instantly turned bright red. Kushina, enraged and embarrassed, immediately put her hands on her hips and yelled, "You...you bastard! What are you saying! I didn't use violence! I was just concerned about you!"

Minato quickly stood between the two and helplessly advised, "Alright, alright, you two stop arguing. I think you must have had a grudge in your past lives, because you keep arguing as soon as you meet."

Zhang Hai didn't argue with Kushina anymore. He turned to Minato and asked, "Are you here at the hospital to visit patients?"
