Chapter 329: Sadness and Tears Flowing into a River 2
Yi Yao dragged her exhausted body slowly open the door and immediately saw a strange old man in the house. She frowned slightly, glanced at the old man with a cold look, and shouted unceremoniously, "Get out!" This angry shout was like thunder, exploding in the small house.
The old man was obviously startled by Yi Yao's aura, but he quickly recovered and walked out the door, swearing profanely. At this moment, Yi Yao's mother rushed out from the inner room upon hearing the noise. She was about to lash out at Yi Yao, but when she saw her daughter's frosty, expressionless face, she swallowed the scolding that was on the tip of her tongue.
"God damn it! How could you drive a customer away? I'm counting on him to make money to support my mother and me, you debt collector!" Yi Yao's mother's voice was filled with a hint of anger and helplessness. However, facing her mother's accusations, Yi Yao simply glanced at her calmly and said in a firm tone: "We're moving tomorrow, and I'll support you from now on!"
Hearing this, Yi Yao's mother widened her eyes and shouted in disbelief: "How old are you? You are just a child, what can you use to support me?" But the only response she got was Yi Yao's icy gaze and short but powerful words: "Don't worry about it, I won't steal or rob anyway! Also, don't do that kind of thing again in the future, Mom!" After that, Yi Yao turned around and walked into her room without looking back, and closed the door with a "bang".
Yi Yao's mother stood there stunned, tears streaming uncontrollably down her cheeks. She knew what her daughter meant by "that kind of thing." For years, to make a living, she had been forced to do things that violated her conscience and morality. Though filled with guilt and pain, the pressures of life left her with no choice. Her daughter's sudden words brought both relief and heartache.
The night passed in silence. The next morning, while it was still dark, Yi Yao's mother quietly rose and prepared breakfast. Yi Yao stood up, washed, and quickly ate breakfast. She looked up and said to her mother, "Let's go! Let's go talk to the landlord and make it clear we're not renting this house anymore!" With that, she resolutely stood up, picked up her packed luggage, and headed for the door. Yi Yao's mother gazed at her daughter's thin but determined back, biting her lip and wiping away the tears from her eyes, then followed closely behind.
Yi Yao's mother hesitated for a moment, but ultimately, she took her ID and bank card and left the dilapidated alley. Yi Yao went to a real estate agency and selected a mid-range residential complex near her middle school. She paid a year's rent of 1300 yuan a month and then, handing her mother her hand, walked toward the complex. She rented Room 10, Building 1, 101st Floor, a three-bedroom, two-living-room apartment. When she opened the door, the room was covered in dust. Yi Yao pulled 5000 yuan in cash from her pocket and handed it to her mother, saying, "Let's buy some clothes, shoes, and some daily necessities. We'll throw away all our old things..."
Yi's mother hesitated to speak, thinking that her daughter had grown up. She thought it was all right, as she had been helpless for Yi Yao in the past. She had wanted to save more money for her college education, but since her daughter didn't want to do that, then forget it. After years of living frugally, there was still some money left in the card. She would take it one step at a time. Looking at Yi Yao's washed-out school uniform, Yi's mother said in a deep voice, "Buy two new sets of uniforms in a while. I still have some money here. Take these, and I'll take you to apply for an ID card and a bank card later. You don't have to give me your own money in the future! Just keep it for yourself..."
Yi Yao smiled faintly and said, "That won't do. I need to earn a lot of money someday so I can buy you a big house and make you proud of me. Now, let's go buy some things and clean up this place. From now on, this will be our new home, a fresh start!" Yi's mother nodded, and the two of them went to the wholesale market to buy three sets of clothes, complete with everything from a change of clothes to a new one. Then they went to the wholesale department to buy daily necessities. Since it was summer and thick quilts weren't necessary, they only bought a mattress and a four-piece set. Later, when she had time, Yi's mother would go to the cotton-floss shop to get a few new quilts.
After completing their shopping, the two of them bought a few meat buns to fill their stomachs before returning to their new residential complex, Chungu. They cleaned their rooms and waited until everything was ready. It was already dark, and Yi's mother went to the kitchen to cook some fried eggs and noodles. Afterward, they enjoyed their meals, showered, and changed into new clothes. Tomorrow was a brand new day.
