Chapter 1329 White Fish
Chapter 1329 White Fish
It strode nimbly down the deep pool and actually found a rugged mountain path.
Zhan Miao struggled to discern the direction and confirmed that they were not far from the town.
She urged the white wolf, "Keep going, maybe we can reunite with Father and Mother!"
About half an hour later, she did hear faint shouts.
Her eyes lit up, and she immediately commanded the white wolf, "Scream!"
The white wolf raised its head and let out a deafening howl.
Zhan Miao was so startled that he almost fell off its back.
She frowned: "Zhan Xiaobai, why are you shouting so loudly? You scared me!"
Zhan Xiaobai shook his head in grievance. He wanted it to bark, but he wasn't allowed to bark too loudly. It was so difficult for him.
However, his shout didn't attract Lin Yiwan and Zhan Yan, but it did attract the hunters.
A joyful shout came from not far away: "Brother, that's a rare snow wolf! Quickly draw your bow and shoot it! I like its wolf pelt; it'll definitely be worth a lot of money!"
Zhan Miao froze. This was outrageous!
We can't let them shoot the white wolf!
She quickly warned, "No, this white wolf has an owner, you mustn't hurt him!"
The two young men holding bows and arrows were so frightened that they took a half step back. They never expected that there was a disheveled girl sitting on the back of the white wolf.
The two men asked almost simultaneously, "Who are you?"
Zhan Miao replied, "My name is Zhan Miao. My parents live in the town. You should know that, right?"
One of the younger ones quickly spoke up: "Brother, I know. They rented Aunt Zhang's house and paid a very high rent. They said they are wealthy merchants from Shengchao!"
The boy nodded, and the wariness in his eyes lessened considerably.
He asked worriedly, "How did you end up at the bottom of this cliff? If I hadn't been trying to catch the white fish in this deep pool to treat my sister's cough, I wouldn't have been able to find you at all!"
Zhan Miao dared not say that she jumped down to escape, no wonder those men in black refused to chase her, they knew she was doomed.
Fortunately, she encountered these two young men; otherwise, she would have truly died at the bottom of this cliff.
She said gratefully, "Please take me out of here! My parents will definitely thank you handsomely!"
The older boy nodded: "Since we've encountered this, we will never leave someone to die. However, I need to catch some white fish, so you'll have to wait a while!"
As soon as he heard him talk about whitefish, Zhan Miao's stomach started rumbling loudly.
She was starving and wanted to eat fish.
Perhaps sensing her predicament, the boy took out a dry biscuit wrapped in oil paper from his cloth bag and said, "Here, have some!"
The young boy beside him cried out anxiously, "Brother, I'm hungry too!"
The boy gently comforted her, "Good boy, Zhi, didn't you see this lady is injured? Let her eat first to replenish her strength!"
Ah Zhi subconsciously licked his lips and turned his face away with difficulty.
Zhan Miao raised his hand and broke the dry biscuit in half, saying, "Let's share it. My white wolf can catch fish, so we can eat more fish later!"
Ah Zhi looked at her in disbelief: "Really? White Wolf can catch fish? He can catch a lot of white fish from the deep pool?"
Zhan Miao nodded emphatically: "Of course, I wouldn't lie to you!"
She rubbed the white wolf's head, and it turned and jumped into the pool.
About half an hour later, it came up, and there were big, fat white fish struggling in its two paws.
Ah Zhi was so happy he almost jumped for joy. He exclaimed, "Brother, this white wolf is really amazing! You won't have to stay in the pool for long this time; it can help us!"
The boy was also very excited. He knelt down in front of Zhan Miao with a thud and said, "Miss, because the white fish in this deep pool are very difficult to catch, could you ask your white wolf to catch a few more for me? My sister's illness still needs the nourishment of fish meat!"
Zhan Miao quickly reached out and pulled him up: "Even if you didn't say anything, I would still help you, as a way of repaying the kindness of getting me out of here!"
By this time, Ah Zhi had already started a fire. He first cleaned the white fish, and then carefully skewered it onto bamboo sticks to roast.
Before long, the aroma of the fish filled the air, making people's mouths water.
Ah Zhi's eyes widened in disbelief. He couldn't help but say, "Don't be fooled by how my brother and I always catch whitefish. I've never eaten any fish meat, let alone had a drop of soup!"
Zhan Miao asked in surprise, "Why?"
Ah Zhi glanced at the boy next to him and whispered, "Because they all had to be given to my sister, she developed a very serious cough!"
Zhan Miao's heart skipped a beat, and she asked in confusion, "Didn't you take her to see a doctor?"
Ah Zhi shook his head: "Our family is very poor, we don't have the money to see a doctor, but the itinerant doctor in town said she has a dryness syndrome, and these white fish that live in the pond are very cold in nature. If she eats them, she will feel much better!"
The boy chimed in, "The itinerant doctor wasn't wrong. Yan'er no longer coughs at night after eating the white fish!"
By this time, Ah Zhi had already grilled one, and he quickly handed it to Zhan Miao: "You eat first!"
Zhan Miao reached out and took the fish. While eating, she thought that when she saw her mother, she would ask her to treat A-Zhi's sister.
The fish was really delicious; even without any other ingredients, it was exceptionally fresh and flavorful.
Zhan Miao was too embarrassed to eat a second one, because A Zhi was really craving it.
He didn't eat it all by himself; he first tore off more than half of the fish for his older brother.
After the two brothers finished eating, the boy went into the water to catch fish.
Zhan Miao also sent the white wolf down, and in less than half an hour, the wolf and the wolf had already caught half a bag of white fish.
As it was getting dark, Ah Zhi waved to the boy, "Brother, come on up quickly, we should go out now, otherwise, my sister will be scared at home!"
The boy carried the harpoon ashore and led Zhan Miao away.
Zhan Miao grew increasingly alarmed as he walked. There was no path at all; underfoot were jagged rocks, and overhead were dense, impenetrable vines that blocked out even sunlight.
An inexplicable chill permeated the air, as if every step was fraught with unknown danger. Ah Zhi, however, moved with the agility of a monkey, leaping nimbly between the rocks, constantly turning back to urge, "Brother, hurry! We can't keep her waiting at home!"
Zhan Miao barely managed to keep up, but her heart was pounding.
Using the dim light to observe her surroundings, she discovered that some strange fruits were hanging on the vines, shaped like miniature wolf heads, and glowing with a faint blue light.
She reached out to touch it, but Ah Zhi grabbed her arm and said, "Don't touch it! That's a 'wolf's head fruit,' it's poisonous."
Zhan Miao withdrew his hand, secretly relieved, but also feeling a greater sense of awe for this unfamiliar place.
After walking for a while, a narrow stream appeared ahead.
Ah Zhi and the boy squatted down, cupped their hands and drank a few mouthfuls of water, then said to Zhan Miao, "After crossing this stream and climbing over that mountain, we'll see our village."
