Chapter 2035: Secret Passage Lullaby

Chapter 2035: Secret Passage Lullaby

Yinding made a gesture, and Yan Ruyu and Huo Changhe silently sank into the water.

He pointed upwards, and soon they saw Scarface come out of the cabin and leave with his men.

After about another quarter of an hour, the three men emerged from the water after making sure that the people had gone far away.

Yinding replied in a low voice: "Your Majesty, Princess, the bookshelf is the entrance to the secret passage. Press the spine of the book and the secret door will open.

When he came out, he told the people inside, 'Keep a close eye on it, don't let anything go wrong.'"

Yan Ruyu's eyes lit up: "There is indeed a secret passage, hidden so secretly, then there must be something important, Your Majesty, let's go in and take a look."

Huo Changhe's eyes fell on the wooden house not far away, and his voice was low: "Okay, let's go in and take a look."

After jumping out of the water, Huo Changhe wiped his cheek and instructed Yinding: "I'll leave the outside to you. If there is any movement, blow three short whistles."

Yinding cupped his hands and said, "Don't worry, Your Highness. I'm watching closely. I can even see a bird flying over."

Yan Ruyu and Huo Changhe walked quickly into the wooden house. The furnishings in the house were simple, with a broken wooden table in the middle. Sure enough, there was an ebony bookshelf on the east wall, piled with some new and old books.

Huo Changhe walked to the bookshelf and, as Yinding had instructed, pressed his fingertips on the spine of the book. With a little force, he heard a slight "click".

The bookshelf slowly moved to the side, revealing a secret door half a person's width at the back, with warm yellow light shining from inside.

Huo Changhe placed his hand on the hilt of the sword at his waist, his fingertips gently rubbing the texture of the scabbard. He said to Yan Ruyu, "I'll go ahead, and you follow behind me."

Yan Ruyu nodded in agreement and followed him into the secret door.

The secret passage was wider than expected. The mountain walls on both sides were polished smooth, and there was an oil lamp hanging every few steps, illuminating the entire area.

She reached out and touched the mountain wall. The place where her fingertips touched was dry and warm, without a trace of moisture.

She leaned over to Huo Changhe's ear and whispered, "It's so clean, someone must take care of it every day. The things stored here are definitely not ordinary."

Huo Changhe glanced at her sideways and lowered his voice even more: "Don't take it lightly. Yinding said there are guards. Listen carefully to the movement in front."

The two walked a few hundred steps further when they suddenly heard low voices in front of them, mixed with a few long yawns.

Yan Ruyu immediately grabbed Huo Changhe's sleeve, and the two stopped and listened carefully, holding their breath.

A gruff voice complained, "I've been on duty for three days straight. What's going on? Aren't they short on manpower? Can't they send in more people? I'm going to be unable to keep my eyes open if I keep going like this."

Another voice echoed sleepily, "Who says it's not? Zhang Erlangzi was on night duty yesterday and fell asleep leaning against the wall. Luckily, the boss didn't come to check on us. Let's not slack off tonight, or we'll be punished if we're caught."

"I can't stand being punished, but I'm tired," a third voice yawned, its voice weak. "There's not even a mouse in this damn place except us. What could go wrong? I think we'd better stay here for a while and get up if anything happens."

"You dare?" The gruff voice rose slightly, then quickly dropped again. "The boss said things are tense these days. If anything gets lost, we'll all be in big trouble."

After listening to what Yan Ruyu said, she leaned over to Huo Changhe's ear and gently brushed his earlobe with her breath. "It seems that there are not many people here. They are almost exhausted. Forcing our way in will easily make noise. Why not try a simpler method?"

Huo Changhe frowned and signaled her to stay where she was while he would handle it.

Just as he was about to take a step, Yan Ruyu quickly waved her hand and took out a palm-sized silver-gray object from the space.

Huo Changhe's eyes lit up: "This is a cell phone!"

When he came, he listened to books on his mobile phone.

Yan Ruyu nodded, a smile in her eyes: "Not only can it hold books, it can also be used as a music instrument to soothe the mind."

Yan Ruyu explained in a low voice, "I'll get sleepy after listening for a while, and it's cleaner than doing it yourself."

She said, pressing the button with her fingertips.

The voices in front gradually died down. After a moment, the sleepy voice sounded again: "Hey, did you hear any sound? It's very soft and pleasant."

The gruff voice asked in confusion, "What's that sound? Let me listen...it's real, like a minor tune. Where does it come from?"

"Who cares where it comes from?" the third voice yawned again, its tone lazy. "It sounds quite comfortable... but I'm getting sleepier..."

As soon as he finished speaking, there was a "bang" sound, as if someone was leaning against the wall, followed by snoring sounds one after another.

The gruff voice finally muttered, "No, I can't hold on any longer," and then fell silent, leaving only the even snoring echoing in the dark passage.

Yan Ruyu waited for half a minute, confirming that the snoring had not stopped, before releasing the button. She raised an eyebrow at Huo Changhe with a hint of smile in her eyes: "It's done, they are all asleep."

Huo Changhe looked at the phone in her hand, a hint of approval flashed in his eyes, he nodded slightly and made a "go" gesture.

The two men tiptoed over to the guards, who were sleeping soundly against the wall without even moving their eyelids.

To be on the safe side, Yan Ruyu took out a few more sleeping pills and gently exploded them. They were shrouded in fog and slept even more deeply.

"There are five people in total," Huo Changhe whispered, "I wonder if there are any more inside."

"Go and see."

Walking further into the secret passage, the light became brighter, and a corner could be vaguely seen ahead. Yan Ruyu followed behind Huo Changhe, her fingertips gently pressing on the dagger at her waist, and whispered, "The place ahead should be where things are stored, right?"

Huo Changhe didn't stop, his voice still low: "Not necessarily, let's look forward. Be careful, there might be secret sentries."

Yan Ruyu said "hmm" and glanced at the surrounding mountain walls. Finding nothing unusual, she continued to move forward with Huo Changhe.

After turning the corner, the secret passage ahead suddenly became wider. In the distance, I seemed to see a stone door with some vague patterns carved on it. Lights shone through the gaps in the stone door, making it brighter than the one in front.

"There's a stone gate ahead," Huo Changhe stopped and turned to Yan Ruyu and said, "Wait here for me. I'll go check if the stone gate is locked."

Yan Ruyu shook her head: "Let's go together, more people will take care of us."

Huo Changhe glanced at her and didn't object. He just slowed down his pace and said, "Follow me closely."

The two walked forward side by side, getting closer and closer to the stone gate. They could vaguely hear a slight movement behind the stone gate, as if someone was moving something.

Yan Ruyu lowered her voice and asked, "There seems to be someone inside?"

Huo Changhe nodded and put his hand back on the hilt of the knife: "Let's take a look at the situation first, don't alarm the people inside."

The two men walked to the stone gate. Huo Changhe leaned forward to look inside the crack, while Yan Ruyu stood behind him, staring vigilantly at the secret passage behind him to prevent anyone from suddenly coming over.
