Chapter 611: Life
Chapter 611: Life
You Changjin had not changed much. He was still wearing that same pair of black-rimmed glasses and a fairly decent suit. Even though today was only her engagement ceremony, Jiang Xinyi had prepared over a dozen sets of formal attire. At this moment, she was wearing a red qipao, with exquisite makeup and her hair elegantly pinned up.To be honest, seeing You Changjin left both Zhou Yuwen and Jiang Xinyi a bit puzzled, as neither had invited him to the banquet. You Changjin walked up to them, gazing at the beautiful Jiang Xinyi before turning his eyes to Zhou Yuwen. With a genuine smile, he said, "Congratulations."
After speaking, he handed over the red packet he had prepared.
Zhou Yuwen accepted the gift money and replied politely, "Thank you. Please, go on inside and take a seat."
Turning his head toward the venue, Zhou Yuwen called out for Liu Shuo.
"Yeah, Brother?"
Liu Shuo was currently inside greeting guests. His mountain-like frame was also stuffed into a suit, making him look surprisingly presentable.
Zhou Yuwen asked Liu Shuo to take You Changjin inside and find him a seat.
The moment Liu Shuo saw him, he thought, 'Oh, isn't this sister-in-law's ex-boyfriend?'
However, Liu Shuo also knew that today was his brother's big day. Naturally, he would not say anything out of line and simply ushered You Changjin inside.
Yet, You Changjin repeatedly waved his hands. "No, no, I still have things to take care of at the school. I just came over to take a look and share a bit of the joy."
Saying this, You Changjin smiled. Zhou Yuwen and Jiang Xinyi tried to urge him to stay, but You Changjin refused no matter what they said. He told them there was no need to see him out and turned to leave.
Left with no other choice, Zhou Yuwen and Jiang Xinyi did not force the issue. Once You Changjin was gone, Zhou Yuwen remarked, "Teacher You is quite a generous guy. He gave quite a bit. Look."
Zhou Yuwen opened it to take a look and discovered there was actually five thousand yuan inside. He handed it to Jiang Xinyi, but she demurred, "Why give it to me? Just keep it yourself."
"Where am I supposed to put it?"
While the two were chatting, Liu Jing, who was also wearing Chinese-style formal attire, walked over and urged them to hurry inside, reminding them that a whole crowd was waiting.
Just like that, Zhou Yuwen and Jiang Xinyi were ushered inside. Zhou Yuwen casually handed the gift money to Liu Jing, who took it without giving it much thought.
Zhou Yuwen and Jiang Xinyi's engagement ceremony was incredibly grand, practically on the scale of a wedding. The guests were all prominent figures and dignitaries of Jinling, including the bosses of several large companies, such as Zhu Hong, who was based in Jinling, and Gao Bide, someone he had collaborated with in the past.
Of course, Liu Dongqiang and Sister Milk Tea attended together as husband and wife. Since Zhang Tianze was originally from Jinling and was so familiar with Zhou Yuwen, it was only natural for her to be there.
However, seeing that the woman standing beside Zhou Yuwen on stage was not Su Qing, Liu Dongqiang could not help but sigh with some emotion, "This little brother of mine is truly fortunate."
Zhang Tianze rolled her eyes at him. "What? Are you envious?"
Liu Dongqiang laughed it off, saying that was not the case at all.
On the day of the engagement, Zhou Yuwen was busy from morning until night. Fortunately, Tao Tian, Lu Lin, and a few other girls were there to help. Later, Jiang Xinyi changed into a white engagement dress that closely resembled a wedding dress, while Tao Tian and the others wore purple formal attire, looking stunning as well. Zhou Yuwen actually felt a little guilty toward them.
After the banquet ended, Zhou Yuwen and Jiang Xinyi returned to the small Western-style building belonging to her family. Now, the entire Jiang family estate belonged to Zhou Yuwen, which meant this Western-style building located in the prime center of Xuanwu District was also his private property.
Naturally, Liu Jing still lived in the Western-style building. Initially, she wanted to give up the master bedroom for Zhou Yuwen and Jiang Xinyi.
However, Zhou Yuwen felt it was unnecessary, especially since he would not be living there frequently anyway.
The engagement ceremony was held at the Metro Park Hotel. From the wedding services to the labor services, everything was handled by Zhou Yuwen's own company. However, because the engagement ceremony was so massive, his own staff could not manage it all, so they had to outsource some personnel.
These people included Li Qiang, who was already working full-time in wedding services.
After their internships, aside from a few well-connected individuals who secured excellent positions, the rest of the students gradually applied for jobs and found work of their own.
To be honest, seeing others find jobs left Li Qiang feeling a bit melancholy. But truthfully, he looked down on working as a manual laborer for a meager salary of one or two thousand a month. Although wedding services were tiring, making money was a reality. He currently led a few guys under him, and taking odd jobs here and there, he could earn over five hundred a day.
It just was not very decent work. He had to wake up early in the morning to build stages with the crew, and during Zhou Yuwen's engagement ceremony, they could only watch from the back.
Li Qiang nudged an unfamiliar colleague beside him and said, "See that? The groom up there is my brother!"
"I'm telling you, my brother is incredible. Do you know who the bride is? The bride is the girlfriend of our university teacher." "Isn't this an engagement banquet? Where does a bride come in?"
"Hey! It's all the same."
Once the engagement ceremony concluded, these part-time workers stayed behind to dismantle the stage. Out of habit, they would sweep through the banquet tables. If they had good luck, they might score an unopened pack of cigarettes or a half-finished bottle of baijiu. After all, for an engagement ceremony of Zhou Yuwen's caliber, the cigarettes and liquor were all top-tier.
Unfortunately, with Liu Shuo cleaning up the aftermath later on, any premium cigarettes or liquor rarely trickled down to them.
After searching for a long time, Li Qiang finally found a half-finished bottle of Maotai. He felt he had good luck and that it was a solid find.
But just as he was about to walk away with it.
Someone nearby asked, "What are you taking?"
"Brother, it's just a little leftover, taking it to share some of the joy. I know your boss!" Li Qiang said, grinning.
"You know our boss and you're doing this kind of work?"
The man's face was full of disdain as he reached directly for the Maotai in Li Qiang's arms, saying, "Hand it over. It's not your turn to take this."
"Hey," Li Qiang tried to argue.
"What's going on?"
Right then, noticing the dispute, Liu Shuo walked over.
"Brother Shuo, someone is stealing here," the man reported.
Hearing this, Li Qiang immediately grew anxious. "What do you mean stealing?!"
But when he turned his head, he ended up face-to-face with Liu Shuo.
"It's you?" Liu Shuo raised an eyebrow when he saw it was Li Qiang.
Li Qiang smiled rather awkwardly. "Brother Shuo, long time no see."
Looking at Li Qiang now, wearing a cheap sweatshirt and dressed up for hard labor, Liu Shuo found it suddenly amusing for some reason. He said with disdain, "I didn't expect you to be working here too."
"Hehe, it's all thanks to Old Zhou giving me a way to eat. Brother Shuo, have a cigarette." As he spoke, Li Qiang pulled out a pack of Daqianmen from his pocket, wanting to offer one to Liu Shuo.
Liu Shuo merely glanced at it and asked the subordinate next to him what exactly was going on.
The subordinate explained that Li Qiang was stealing alcohol, while Li Qiang argued that it wasn't stealing.
The subordinate clearly looked down on Li Qiang, adding, "He even claimed he knows our boss."
Liu Shuo cast a glance at Li Qiang.
Li Qiang just stood there smiling foolishly. Liu Shuo said, "Forget it, working a job like this isn't easy for him. Let him have it."
Hearing this, the subordinate grew a bit anxious.
However, Liu Shuo simply waved his hand dismissively, signaling for the subordinate to follow him away.
Facing Liu Shuo's retreating back, Li Qiang called out, grinning, "Thanks, Brother Shuo!"
